I have been using the Cumulus software for over a year and have setup a website and love all the information I have stored about the weather over the last year. The station I have been using was the Maplin Fine Offset product which was good but has now failed, so I am looking to buy a new product. I want to keep all my current setup with Cumulus and just change the weather station. I have been looking at the various Oregon Scientific and Davis products but want to make use the station I buy enables me to turn my PC off but still manage to store the data in the weather station until I turn the PC back on again. The Maplin product does this very well but I notice that some of the products don't. Could anyone point me in the right direction as to which station i should be considering.

Thanks

Of the Oregon Scientific stations, only the WMR200 has a data logger. Note that there may be other models which are the same but have slightly different numbers. Notably, the 88 and 100 do not have a logger.

All of the Davis stations have a logger, but not included as standard. To connect to a PC at all, you have to buy a Weatherlink adapter, and that adapter contains a logger.

So just to get this clear in my mind if I had a Oregon Scientific WMR88 which can connect to a PC via USB, if I turn the PC off I will lose all the data until I turn the PC on again.

That's correct, yes.

Mdavies44,

Your dilemma mirrors my reason decision. After over 4 years of service and a few running repairs, my Fine Offset has given up on me. It only records temperature and humidity now. While I could repair or replace it, I wanted something more reliable (and accurate) to replace it.

I've decided to go the whole hog and replace it with a Davis Vantage Pro2 with data logger. While expensive compared to FO, I'm hoping for greater reliability and want to expand the system over time to record solar and UV in the future.

All the best in your decision making.
