Rain Rate

Post by fastbysuzuki »

Hi
I am not getting a rain rate reading at least I have not seen one for a while. In the records the rain hour rate was in December 4th at 50.6 this was due to me, I was not getting any rain readings at all so I climbed onto the roof took the rain collector off the wind hit the tipping bucket and operated it a few times then so did I to see if there was anything sticking it appeared not so I put the top back and when I checked the readings the hour rate was something like 1460mm per hour so with that I assumed the reed switch was working ok the station has only been operating since October 22nd 2013 I corrected the all time record but I could not find the month rain to correct
For some time in have suspected the rain readings but being new to weather monitoring I am in the dark as to what to expect unfortunately I cannot find a station close by. Any input would be appreciated.

The Davis starts generating a rain rate figure after two tips within 15 minutes of each other. If you're not getting any rain recorded at all, but the reed switch appears to be working and the bucket isn't clogged, I don't know what the cause of that would be.

To correct the monthly rainfall total, see http://wiki.sandaysoft.com/a/FAQ#My_mon ... _are_wrong

Steve
Just after I posed I saw rain rate on the site so that's working when I get the opportunity I will climb up taking a multimeter and re-check the reed switch but this time disconnecting the plug first.
Thanks for the info.
