Error 32701 after installation of Cumulus software

Post by Redneck in training »

My system uses IP logger connected by USB to Vantage Pro 2. The data logger is connected by Ethernet cable to the wireless router while my computer is on wireless. I can ping the data logger, I can connect to it via browser, it sends data to Weather Underground and AVAKAS. After I installed Cumulus I configured the connection with the IP address but it displays 32701 error and asks for configuration correction. What might be wrong?

It's hard to say. The "-32701" error is the Davis software that Cumulus uses saying that it can't connect to the IP logger for whatever reason; that error code is the only information that it provides. It sounds like the route from the PC to the logger is OK, so one possibility could be that the Davis software can't connect because the logger is too busy uploading to the weatherlink.com. The logger can't talk to Cumulus at the same time as its uploading to weatherlink.com.

Is the required port open on the router? I think it uses 2222 by default?

The uploads to Weather Underground and AVAKAS (I've never heard of that before) aren't handled directly by the logger, are they? As I understand it, WU gets its data from weatherlink.com?

I had trouble connecting to WeatherLink so therefore Weather Underground and AWEKAS get data directly from IP Logger. I removed both from uploading but the issue with Cumulus not connecting persists. I don't know if the logger still uploads to WeatherLink because I can't set up an account there for some reason (incorrect DID).

Sorry, I'm out of ideas. I didn't even know that WU and Awekas could get data directly from an IP logger - I have no idea how that works.

Do you have the Weatherlink software installed on your PC, and if so can that connect to the logger OK?

Yes I have WeatherLink installed but I was not able to connect it with data logger. In fact it gieves me similar message as Cumulus. I could conect the WeatherLink to the data logger only via USB. But that doesn't work for me because I want to access my weather data away from home. Since I can get it either wia Weather Underground or AWEKAS I might just give up on it.

If Weatherlink can't connect, Cumulus isn't going to be able to either. If you do decide to try to resolve the issue, perhaps Davis will be able to help you.

Hi,

I'm sure this is almost certainly covered elsewhere, but I have also just bought and installed a David VP2. Weatherlink is working and receiving data, I have converted the USB link to a virtual serial port etc (COM 7), but I receive the same error message at the start of this thread. Clearly, I'm doing something wrong when configuring Cumulus. I have noticed that in the .ini file, there is no station specified, despite selecting the Vantage Pro2. Any suggetions would be much appreciated.

All the best

Are you using exactly the same settings in Cumulus as in Weatherlink, i.e are you using WL in serial mode with COM7, and have you selected 'serial' for 'Davis type' in Cumulus, along with 7 for the com port? Are you making sure to close WL before running Cumulus?

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the reply. It is now working - thanks. Not sure what or why it was unhappy, but a couple of restarts and it's ok. Now trying to work out why Port 21 won't open, despite correct firewall settings etc. :)

Thought I might add that have also fixed the Port 21 issue. I had replaced an old USB wireless network adpater with a new one, but the old adapter kept the port open, so it was reporting as busy. Deinstalled old adapter, cleaned the registry and now all fine as well.
