Error in CP210x_GetDeviceSerialNumber()- Vantage Vue
Installed a new Davis Vantage Vue today - I also got the USB datalogger and software. Running Win 8.1.
Followed the instructions on the Wiki for Davis USB dataloggers.
1) Installed Weatherlink (came with 6.03)
2) Installed CP210X USB to Serial Converter
3) Updated drivers, restarted PC
Weatherlink will not communicate with the station. Cumulus will. Silicon Labs CP201x USB to UART bridge (com3) appears under ports in device manager. Changing Com ports does not make a difference.
Running CP210X_USB_Serial_Converter_ver2 gives the following:
DAVIS USB TO VIRTUAL SERIAL CONVERTOR
Please make sure that only one device is connected.
Press any key to continue
DeviceName = (\\?\usb#vid_10c4&pid_ea60#0001#{a2a39220-39f4-4b88-aecb-3d86a35dc7
48})
Opened the device successfully.
Error in DeviceIoControl routine: The parameter is incorrect.
No Devices Found. Communication Error
Error in CP210x_GetDeviceSerialNumber() :: Invalid Handle
Error while talking to the device.
Press any key to exit
I am trying to ensure that the datalogger interval is synced with Cumulus (and that I can use the datalogger). Looks like I can get data direct but cant use the logger. Tried on Win 7 - same issue. Tried compatibility mode - same issue.
Any thoughts/ideas?

Re: Error in CP210x_GetDeviceSerialNumber()- Vantage Vue
If you already have Cumulus communicating with the station, then you already have the serial/USB drivers installed, so you don't need to run CP210X_USB_Serial_Converter_ver2. You should be able to run Weatherlink by specifying a serial connection and the same COM port number that you have working in Cumulus (or get WL to scan for the port). Make sure you are not trying to run Cumulus and Weatherlink at the same time.

Re: Error in CP210x_GetDeviceSerialNumber()- Vantage Vue
Hi Steve,
Cumulus is shut down.
when I do that WL seems to communicate but then times out - like there is no response from the station. If I test the connection then it eventually comes back with a No station could be found. Try once more to be sure. If I ignore that and proceed further in set-up I get a Computer gave up waiting for response from station. Check port settings and connection.

Make sure you don't have any power saving settings on the USB ports - if that doesn't help I think you will have to get Davis involved. It seems odd that Cumulus can communicate successfully with the station, but WL cannot - I suspect that even though it appears that Cumulus is working OK with the station, there may be 'hidden' issues that you haven't seen yet.

Re: Error in CP210x_GetDeviceSerialNumber()- Vantage Vue
Hi Steve,
checked that - already disabled any power savings. Will call Davis. So far data from Cumulus seems fine - after being shut down it does not download data when restarted. It shows the dialog box to indicate that data download is in progress - but no data.

Ah, I misunderstood then; I thought it was working OK in Cumulus. If you zip up the diags folder and attach it, I'll take a look. I suspect that Cumulus is having communication issues just as WL is.

Ok - here it is. Tried on a totally different Windows 8 PC - same issue. beginning to suspect a bad datalogger.

Re: Error in CP210x_GetDeviceSerialNumber()- Vantage Vue
There aren't any communication errors, it all looks good. But when Cumulus requests the logger data, it only gets the data up to about an hour ago. This suggests that the console clock is wrong, but you have Cumulus setting the clock, and that isn't showing an error. Perhaps you have the wrong timezone or daylight savings setting in the console?

Re: Error in CP210x_GetDeviceSerialNumber()- Vantage Vue
As far as I can tell, both are correct - DST is off and timezone is GMT-5 hours (I am in Ohio in the US).
Tried reseating the datalogger - no difference.

If the clock's correct then it does look like the logger and/or console may be faulty.
