Problem with Fne weather

Post by garybuska »

I am not sure what is going on perhaps I do not have something set up correctly.
I have noticed that the third indicator does not appear to be working as I do not see anything in it at all
There are no lines or any indicator showing at all.
I seem to remember that when I first installed cumulus it was working but now it is not.
I use a WS 2090
When I initially set up my station I was using easy weather and had not installed cumulus.
I than downloaded and installed cumulus and was running them both at the same time as I got confused by the instructions. I was getting all kinds of erroneous readings and was told that in order to clesr up everything I needed to delete the contents of the data folder which I did. :?

It probably is showing data, but it's not easily visible. Fine Offset stations tend to mainly give only 8 compass directions rather than the 16 that they are designed to do. This spoils the wind rose as it requires data from adjacent positions so that it becomes a 2D shape. Try changing the 'wind rose points' on the display settings screen to 8.

That did the trick works like a champ now.
My Question here is why is information like this not in some kind of help file or part of the set up information.
It is small things like this that can make a program a great program instead of just a good one.

Bit unfair to criticise people who provide software free very everyone to use. I would say it's more of hardware fault anyway, as station is designed for 16 points but only really gives 8 points.

Thanks, Mark. I've also added it to the readme.txt. And it's already in the help for the display settings.

Hi,

Yes indeed. But it can be "fixed" (or at least signifcantly improved) fairly easily. See, for example, this thread.

Cheers, Alan.

I was not criticizing any one but merely asking a question. I definitely appreciate the work done by all involved in the making of this software and the fact that is is free is a plus in my book. Than explain to me why my display shows show 16 points. No where in my manual does it state that it only displays 8 compass points so how in gods green earth was I supposed to know. And the post Steve submitted stated that it was the fact that I am using fine offset weather.
Now explain to me why I see a 16 point rose if I use Easy Weather That tells me that the unit I have is putting out a 16 point rose and there must be something in fine offset that is not interpreting correctly but no problem I am not trying to be picky here I will just use 8 points it is not a big deal.

As I said, they mainly give 8 points, and if you read the thread that Alan linked to (and other threads about the internals of the Fine Offset stations), you will see why. They do give the other 8 but to a lesser extent. This is a design flaw, so obviously it isn't mentioned in the Fine Offset manual. It is however, mentioned in the Cumulus help. And now, thanks to Mark, it is in the FAQ.

The problem causes the type of wind rose in Cumulus to look odd. I know nothing about Easyweather and I have no idea what sort of wind rose it provides - there are many different types.

I'm sorry that you felt the Cumulus documentation was inadequate on this occasion. I happen to believe that the documentation and support provided for Cumulus (by myself and many others here) is better than you get with most software, free, commercial or whatever. As there is so much information provided, it does sometimes require some effort on the part of the user to find a particular piece of information.

You missed my point completely. I am New to all of this and in my haste to get things up and running I did not see that. I am glad to see that Mark put it in the FAQ section. I think that cumulus is great and if I had any money I would more than happily donate to the cause. I think every one misunderstood what I was trying to say. Or perhaps I worded wrong. You can rest assured that I will to me best to spread the word about this program I already have one person interested. Keep up the great work and Have a Happy Christmas and a good new year

Don't worry about it; few people (relative to the number of users there clearly are out there) do donate anyway.
