Can I turn New Record light back on?

Post by RayProudfoot »

Hi Steve,

Rather stupidly I clicked on the flashing new record light to see what had been broken before realising it switches off the indicator on my web site.

Is there any way I can reinstate it? It would be nice to leave it on show for a couple of days. It was the average wind speed which broke the record.
Cheers,
Ray, Cheshire.

The only way to get it turned back on again 'properly' would be to get Cumulus to re-read the value which broke the record, and as it's the average speed there's no way to do that, as 'rewinding' using the logger data won't work for that.

You could temporarily alter the web page so that it flashes that item regardless of the value of the web tag - link explicitly to the record1.gif image in the template rather than using the web tag.

Thanks Steve. It's not one of the more interesting records so on this occasion I'll leave it as it is.

You describe how to 'fiddle' it but is there any possibility a 'leave on/ turn off' option could be added to the records page so in the event I repeat what I did today the flashing light can be switched off or kept on according to the option chosen?
Cheers,
Ray, Cheshire.

I think that what's needed is a set of web tags which are more useful for the web (i.e that stay set for a configurable period, etc) and are independent of the lights in Cumulus. The existing ones were just in response to a request for web tags which reflected the current state of the flashing lights in Cumulus, so that's all they do.

Fair point Steve. There haven't been any substantial changes in Cumulus for some time so something like this would be for the next version. Is there any news about that?

I'm on leave for three weeks after next Thursday, so I'm hoping to find some time to get back to writing some code. When I'm not engaged in my latest hobby, that is. And I know it's a hobby that you know quite a bit about yourself ;)

LOL! No wonder you haven't written much code if that's occupying your time. :D Yes, guilty as charged although I mostly fly a 737-900. I have the FS Labs Concorde and need to spend some time on that.

What's your name at avsim assuming that's where you visit?

I'm "klaatu" at avsim. So far I've mainly been flying between Sanday and Kirkwall in that Islander. I bought FSX a few weeks ago and the photo scenery for Orkney. I've also just bought Prepar3D V2 and and I'm tweaking that at the moment.

I hope you enjoy your new hobby. Exciting times with P3D now out. Having seen your PC spec you certainly have the system to enjoy it. Do you find it's okay with W8?

Yes, seems to be working fine with Windows 8.
