W3C Validation
Anyone have any thoughts on the following? When I validate my website http://my-local-weather.com/ on my Windows 8 computer I get a "congratulations" all is good. When I validate the site on the computer that is running Cumulus and uploading to the site I get something like 20 errors and 3 warnings. It has me scratching my head.

Re: W3C Validation
What are then errors? I have been working on getting my sites/pages validated and so far have most of it now passing.

Re: W3C Validation
Indeed, your main weather page (ie: index.htm) contains 20 programming errors and 3 programming warnings.
You could use the facilities of the W3C Markup Validation Service (such as activating some of the available options) - you would then be presented with a description of the errors/warnings, the lines onto which those errors/warnings are produced as well as some suggestions as to why the Service is seeing those errors/warnings.
As an example, try using this link to check your page!

Re: W3C Validation
Thanks for the replies. However I still don't understand why I get no errors when I check my site using one computer and numerous errors when using another computer.

Re: W3C Validation
Would you be checking the same page? In checking your site I get different, or no errors, depending on which page I check i.e. http://my-local-weather.com vs http://my-local-weather.com/today.htm vs. http://my-local-weather.com/yesterday.htm etc. Each page has some different code.

Re: W3C Validation
Thanks Spacewalker & Paul for your input. I have gone thru the errors on my index page and eliminated most. They were a result of poor eyesight and sloppy typing on my part. There are a couple of issues left to be resolved. The code for the clock is "cut & paste", and I need to do some research before I have enough info to make the corrections. It will be a learning experience, unfortunately at my age remembering what I learn one day is sometimes the next day's problem.
Believe it or not running the validator on my Windows 8 computer is still giving me a "congratulations - no errors" message on all my pages. It does however turn up numerous problems on other sites such as my bank, government sites and even Wunderground. That still has be baffled! Thanks again.

Re: W3C Validation
Stop putting yourself down - everyone can learn something new every days and age certainly has nothing to do with that.studebaker wrote:...unfortunately at my age remembering what I learn one day is sometimes the next day's problem.
If your memory (the one in the upper part of your body) has become less reliable at keeping its information for a long time (or even for a short time), then it is time to use another part of your body (your hand) to grab a pencil and to write the information down into a notebook (not the electronic one but the one made from either processed trees or recycle paper) - as being taught when I was young, writing down things helped (and still help) me remembering them...

Re: W3C Validation
Thanks Spacewalker. I made changes to my index page......eliminated a couple of items which after a bit more digging will try to incorporate again. Good news is I now have W3C validation on all my pages. When I tire of playing around on this site (Barne's Creek) I fire up my Raspberry Pi and have a go at Linux. Can't wait until Steve comes up with a version of Cumulus for the Pi.
Cheers!
