Stepping up from a Fine Offset?

Post by justincredible »

Hey guys, my weather station has been going pretty well since I got it in April, nothing has failed at least. But I'm tired of it's buggyness, needing to be reset every few weeks, data corrupting rain spikes (and other measurement spikes), the temperature exaggerations and questionable barometer.

I'm looking to step up to a better quality station, though I'm not keen on shelling out hundreds on a Davis (even though I'd love to have one, it's just too much money right now), so I'm wondering if there's any middle ground? Not a cheapo Fine Offset, not a top of the line Davis, but something that's reliable, less buggy and at least relatively accurate.

This unit looks better, but I don't know who it's made by, and doesn't seem to have USB (but it does have WiFi, so that's -ok- I guess, but I guess that means I can't use Cumulus with it). I'm also sure I can get it for cheaper if I knew what the model number was and could buy it directly from China...

So do I have a middle ground option? The LaCrosse weather stations look decent (despite the consoles looking pretty fugly) and Oregon Scientific WMR200A is getting up there in terms of price, almost in Davis territory! But at least it is easily had in Australia and is (barely) affordable.

Any input? Are there any problems with the WMR200A or the Chinese one I linked earlier? Or are there alternatives?

Cheers.

That PH1000 station on eBay is manufactured by Fine Offset, and won't work with Cumulus, or any other software, as far as I know - it can only upload to the internet.

Ah, yeah I figured that. And I also checked the Fine Offset website and they're listed there, too. My bad.

Thanks
