NOAA upload

Post by muppet77 »

Hi there, our new site is getting there!
http://maidenerleghschool.co.uk/communi ... r-station/
Many thanks for everyone's help , especially Steve.

one quick question - do the NOAA summary files update when you force an update with "web update"?

I have the NOAA "FTP Directory" as
/cumulus/NOAA

...but in the main FTP settings, my "Directory" is set to
cumulus. Is this necessary?

does this mean that I should change the NOAA FTP to just
/NOAA
or perhaps just
NOAA
or
/cumulus/NOAA
or even
cumlus/NOAA

Apologies - I tried to test it with a forced upload but can't seem to get it spot on.

thanks

NOAA files don't get uploaded during a manual web update. The directory you supply has to be the full path on your FTP server, it doesn't use the directory from the internet settings screen.

I'd be surprised if ftp.maidenerleghweather.com formed part of the path, but it's not impossible I suppose. Sometimes the domain name is part of the path when the hosting supports multiple domains (mine is like that, so my path starts sanday.org.uk/....) but it's a bit odd (I think) to have ftp.maidenerleghweather.com on the front. But you must know how your ftp server is set up (as you upload files to it yourself), so I shouldn't really be confusing the issue. Just thought it was odd.

You shouldn't put the "host name" from the internet settings on the path, if that's what you mean. It's just the directory path on the server itself which is needed. It's the path that you would go through yourself if you logged in to the server with an ftp client; Cumulus just does the same thing.

So just my folder names?

Do they need a forward slash before them?

Can someone please check their own?

Here's mine:

sanday.org.uk/weather/reports

On the internet settings screen, for 'directory', I have

sanday.org.uk/weather

Don't be fooled by the 'sanday.org.uk' part; that isn't the server name, it really is part of the path. When I log in with an ftp client, that's the first directory I see.

You've presumably created that NOAA directory on the server using an ftp client. If you can't work out what the path to that directory is, your ftp client should tell you. What are you using?

I don't use an ftp client. I just log into my host and upload via that.

I will experiment tomorrow although it will take me 24h to see if it works!

Can someone please check their own?
All my Cumulus files are at http://www.komokaweather.com/weather/
In Cumulus Configuration Internet Site/Options for Directory I have just weather
In Cumulus Configuration Internet files all the remote filenames are entered as weather/gauges-ss.htm etc
In Cumulus Configuration NOAA Settings for the FTP directory I have just weather/reports
In my direct files upload using FileZilla my host is http://www.komokaweather.com
My NOAA reports are in http://www.komokaweather.com/weather/reports/

I hope this is helpful, and your spreadsheet is excellent.
