Cumulus Support

Hello,

I am wondering how difficult it would be to periodically...
...wake my PC up
...side load from the data logger
...upload to my website/WoW/Wunderground
...go to sleep
Once every hour. Does anyone have any experience of this?

I looked at this a while ago main problem is cumulus cant start from sleep or hibernate mode. I tried pc auto shut down and start up software from http://www.lifsoft.com/ but it was not very good. in theory the program was good but it just did not work in practise. using bios setting you can start your pc / laptop at a set time each day but that's as far as it goes.

My first question would be why you might want to do that? If it's to save energy then the best solution is to use a small netbook (or better still, the modern AMD equivalent with an 11.6" screen) as a dedicated weather PC and leave it on 24/7. These cost <£250 new and obviously quite a lot less on the used market. Power consumption is maybe around the 15W mark, ie not much more than a single low-energy light-bulb, and so is really not of much concern.

Of course, if you can't afford to buy one (or don't have something similar already) then it's not a relevant solution. But if you can source one, a modern netbook is an ideal low-consumption weather PC.

Absolute bargain at £119 with the £20 cashback and I installed W7 on it despite Acer only supplying W8 drivers. Found all the relevant W7 drivers via the net.

If you decide to buy one and need the W7 drivers I am not far away from you!!

Yes, good point. I am using a dedicated Lenovo X61s which, as you say, is around the 15W mark in idle. Looks like a non-issue. I had been assuming it would more power but hadn't checked the spec.
