Cumulus Support

It's that newbie again! I've loaded the 5 folders and files to the website and put them in the root. I've entered the site info into Configuration - Internet and ticked the boxes to the best of my ability but nothing seems to be reaching the website? Is there a magic GO button some place I've missed out?

You just need to tick the 'auto update' box. Could you show a screen shot of your internet settings screen, please, so I can look for any obvious problems?

I'll gladly send you a screenshot but I regret to say I've forgotten how to do that Steve. I did say I was 82! The autoupdate box was ticked and I've since tried the webupdate and it sent a stream of info to line, logged in and loaded it up, then logged out. So it seems to be more a case of a problem on the website?

To attach it to a reply, use the 'upload attachment' box below where you type your reply.

You could also turn on ftp logging (on the Cumulus configuration menu) then after an upload has been attempted, attach the ftplog.txt file from the Cumulus folder.

Are you uploading to the correct directory on your hosting server? Your Hosting company should have told you when you bought the service what the default directory was. It should be something like "/public_html" or "/htdocs" or "/html".

So, once you know that, you have to put that in front of the upload file name i.e using public_html as an example the remote file name for file xxxxxxx.htm would be /public_html/xxxxxxx.htm and also use /public_html/ for the default Directory in the Internet Web settings configuration.

I'll go take a look at the website and see what the html file is as suggested by Water 01. I'm sure this is something pretty simple.

Yes, your other settings look OK, so it's likely that you need something in the 'directory' box as David suggests.

You are at the end of the levels near the river Parrot and I am on top of the Mendip Hills, 640ft above you .

Garth, it looks like your images directory has not been uploaded as part of the install (i.e. using FileZilla), and if you click on the Files tab in the pictures (Configuration/Internet) above you should also have a tick in Upload Standard Files AND Upload Standard Images.

All OK now! The webhost has sorted out the problem. Dave was right on the mark. Things are now in the right directories and I've got RealTime working as well so that the windgauges update every 60 seconds. The main update is every 10 minutes while I see how much bandwidth it's using up. Maybe I'll be able to make it 5 minutes later on. The rain gauge is a bit flaky but most tipping bucket ones are and I edit the file around 09.00 each day according to what the glass jar says.

While all this was going on I came across an unusual problem with the Maplin's weather station. Until now it had been on the other side of the room and only connected to the PC once each morning for a few minutes. Now I needed to keep it linked up, so I brought the unit down onto my desk. Two days later it lost the signal from the sensor unit occasionally. So I moved it onto the window ledge in full line of sight to the sensor. It lost all connection full stop! As an aged comms engineer with the Beeb who spent half a lifetime setting up microwave links for the Beeb that didn't make sense. Then the penny dropped. I moved it back onto the shelf 2 metres away and within seconds everything worked fine again. The**** main unit is so temperature sensitive it can't stick more than about 29C! I'd moved it firstly to within an arm's length of the radiator - then to within a foot of the radiator. Now I've got a much longer USB - USB lead (very rare but Lindy Cables sell them) and it's working from the shelf and all is sweetness and light again. Maybe Steve could copy this gem of info to a more appropriate section of the forum as I see several people have had a total loss problem and it could be just a simple matter of getting too hot.

Still one minor problem as your gauges page is not correct.

You have not copied the dbimages directory from the Cumulus webfiles directory to the your home directory on your server (same place as the images directory). This folder contains the images required by the gauges page.

Also you need to fill out the Description in the Cumulus Configuration/Staion section in Layout as this is used to describe your station. Mine for instance gives the "Waterworks Cottage in the Mendip Hills, Somerset, UK." on the main page.

Yes, OK Dave. Took a look at your website. Pretty fancy stuff Dave! Very nice indeed. So where do you derive the forecast from? I'm also being asked by people how the cloud base is measured?
