FTP Problems

Post by Jeff Cook »

Dear All,

I feel that senility is setting in, after some years of using cumulus to run a website I have now moved to a web host that is more Cumulus friendly, and cannot get the thing working properly. In short the FTP upload is extremely slow, some files appear correctly and some don't, and in particular it seems that HTML files get overwritten with nothing. I've tried everything that I can think of (which isn't much) and have had a good poke about on this forum but can't find anything that quite matches my situation. I will include an FTP log in the hope that someone out there can interpret what I'm doing wrong and tell me how to do it right.

Thank you very much.

Jeff Cook

You're getting timeouts changing directory to public_html. You could try setting 'active ftp mode'.

Thanks Steve for the very fast reply.

I've gone over to active FTP mode and although things are a little different, the problem remains essentially the same. You will see from looking at the attached FTP log file that the whole process, (which by the way is one single upload), took 10 minutes, from memory this process used to take less than half a minute.

I'd like to say that I've tried everything, but clearly I've missed the one set up the would have things working.

Thanks for your help.

Jeff Cook.

Active mode doesn't seem to be working at all, it's unable to make the connection for the data transfer. You'll need to go back to passive mode and try to get it working that way. I'm afraid I don't have anything else to suggest, it seems to be a problem with the ftp server or your connection to it.

If you want to send me your ftp login details by private message, I can try it from here to see what happens?

Thank you, I've returned to passive mode and have sent a PM to you with my details, or at least I hope that's what I've done.
