What do I need to get going?

Post by R_Willis »

Total weather station newbie here.

I purchased a Davis Model 6152 Vantage Pro2.

What do I need to get it working with Cumulus? Do I need additional things? Software?

I know I need a domain/website. Any suggestions on cheap hosting?

I will also be integrating it with my Control4 home automation system.

Thank you very much.

I presume you have the optional/extra Davis Weatherlink datalogger/software as well so that you can connect the station to the computer. If you have the Davis Weatherlink USB or Serial datalogger version MAKE SURE you select Serial mode in the Weatherlink software set up, not USB (even though you may have a USB datalogger you need to set it up in virtual serial). If you have the IP datalogger version then follow that instruction. If you have either the serial or USB it is wise to first run the Davis Weatherlink software as that will be easiest to do the station setup. Once it runs with Weatherlink then you can set it up with Cumulus (but you CANNOT run two programs, e.g. Weatherlink and Cumulus at the same time). You will soon find out Cumulus is all you will need except for the setup.

Sorry I kind give a recommendation on low-cost hosting. I use GoDaddy but a number of users are very happy with E-rice and 1 & 1, and I am sure there are others.

Good luck and enjoy,
Paul

Yes, it is an extra with the Davis stations to connect them to a computer.
