Correcting rainfall data

Hi Everybody! I'm a newbie and struggling a bit, but hope to get my WH1081 station online soon. I've overcome 'wobbly pole syndrome', got the transmitter/sensor unit down to 1.5 metres above ground level and have the rain gauge at ground level bolted down to a brick to stop trembling and false readings. I've also made a white cylindrical screen to protect the sensor from direct sun.

So far so good. However, I see that every morning when I check the rainfall jar, the measured rainfall always exceeds the electronic total by about 8%. I know that I need to edit a file to correct this and I'm told this a common thing with tipping bucket type rain gauges. Can you please tell an 82 year-old newbie in VERY simple terms, what file to edit and which bit to change?
Sincere regards to all.

If I understand you correctly, you want to increase the rain figures recorded by Cumulus by 8%? To do that, open the calibration screen from the configuration menu, and in the 'multipliers' box, enter 1.08 next to rainfall. Cumulus will then start applying that multiplier to the rain values read from the station.

Many thanks for that Steve! May I ask how at this late stage of the year I insert my annual total to date?

There's a box for YTD rain on the station settings screen. Make sure to just put any additional amount which Cumulus hasn't recorded itself, and that 2013 is in the year box.
