Hi everybody,
I'm quite happy user of Cumulus software with my WH1080. Right now my Weather Station is connected with PC. This PC works all around and has to be connected to the router wifi. So router also has work nonstop. It's quite big hardware for one small weather station. Isn't?
I'm wondering - it's possible to create Cumulus for Android?
Android has a lot of advantage:
1. Simple configuration: Weather Station+ basic smartphone only. Smartphone reads data from WS by a wire and sends realtime.txt (and/or another if user wishes) directly into the server.
2. simple and cost-effective configuration - old smartphone and the cheapest subscription for data transfer.
3. Such a stuff could work everywhere! WS is powered by a solar cell. Smartphone also can be.
Does anybody know any solutions similar to Cumulus for Android? There are a lot weather readers for Android, but nothing like Cumulus with can send data.
All best

Well, I don't think you'll see Cumulus on Android, but Steve is working in the background on a Linux version. There are already other light weight programs that will run on small Linux systems - such as a router - if you want to investigate them. Personally I'm sticking with Cumulus and keeping fingers crossed that Steve finds some enthusiasm for developing the Linux version sometime. (I have a Raspberry Pi running from a HDD reserved for it).

Re: Cumulus for Android?It's possible?
The compiler I am using for the cross-platform version of Cumulus can compile for Android. However, the USB library I am using only has versions for Windows, Linux, and OS X. If it were possible to build a version of that library for Android, and if it's possible to get an Android device to connect with a USB station, then a version of the cross-platform Cumulus could be built for Android.
The Davis Weatherlink IP logger uses a TCP/IP connection, so I think it quite likely that I could build a version to talk to one of those. I haven't finished writing the Davis code yet, though.
