New guy here- I noticed the low temp on this model is -40, but I know we can see -50/-60 in Alaska winters
Do I pull my unit or does it shut down?
Thanks

Many/most (but not all) pws have a -40 reading limit. Normally you would not need to do anything other than to know that it might have been colder that day. Check the yearly temperature here http://www.wunderground.com/weatherstat ... =INUNAVUT2 and it bottoms out at just past -40 and that station is outside all year in much colder weather.

Re: Ambient WS-2090 in below -40 weather
The reason for the -40deg limit is they way the station transmits the data from the outside temperature sensor to the base station. The temperature information ist stored as a 12bit value in the datastream. You get the actual temperature by subtracting 400 and deviding by 10.
Example: if the transmitted valie is 689, you first subtract 400 giving 289 and devide by 10 resulting in a temperatue of 28.9deg
Example 2: if the transmitted value is 000, you subtract 400 giving -400 and divide by 10 giving -40.0deg. This explains why the weather station "maxes" out at -40deg.
