Cumulus lock up

:( I can see that there have been issues with the Maplin N96GY weather station when having it continuously connected via USB cable to a laptop and having dowloads set to 15 minute intervals. I have been running my station since June 2013 and have lost contact on multiple occasions between the station, console and subsequently Cumulus but it always fixes itself. The data downloads to Wunderground and WOW Met Office.

Today Cumulus was frozen and it did not unfreeze until I unplugged the USB and restarted Cumulus.

Is there a fix for this issue now? I am a novice and was quite happy with running the laptop 24 hrs a day (Windows XP Home editions 2002 SP3).

Your help would be appreciated. I may have missed the post where the answer is explained.

I have never had to reset the Console.

The earliest log there is from the night of 3rd October, and the station wasn't responding when you started Cumulus at that time, so the reason Cumulus was locked up when you looked at it was as in this FAQ: http://wiki.sandaysoft.com/a/FAQ#Cumulu ... to_kill_it

When the station stops responding, it usually requires a reset to get it going again, but in your case this appears not to have been necessary. It may just have been a problem with the USB connection.

You still seem to be having problems with the station; it's losing contact with the outdoor sensors for long periods.

:) Thanks for the reply. Yes the station loses contact often but I assumed this was simply an issue I'd have to live with. It is only 10 metres from the outdoor weather station to the receiver. It appears to fix itself so I thought it was because it is a lower end of the market weather station that would be normal. I never touch the USB cable. Is there a way of fixing the issue of losing contact for long periods? Is it a fault and I should return the weather station? Are better AA batteries proven to help? I have bought some Lithium ones but not put them into the transmitter yet.

I did remove the batteries from the receiver this time to get Cumulus unlocked and that worked. Should I be downloading the next version of Cumulus which is beta I understand? :|

The beta version is being used by a lot of people without any problems being reported. Note that the change in that version only stops the Cumulus display locking up when the station doesn't respond, it doesn't make your station perform any better. As it seems that your station is locking up - well I think that's what you're saying; first you said you didn't have to reset and now you say you did - if that becomes a problem you can try the 'synchronise fine offset reads' setting mentioned in the FAQ.

Regarding the loss of contact; occasional loss is acceptable but you seem to have a serious problem so you are using a lot of data. You can try changing the batteries or repositioning the receiver, and look through the forum for other suggestions where people have had similar problems with their station.
