Rain data is crazy! Is it Windows 8?
Ever since I migrated Cumulus to my new windows 8 computer the rain data has been wrong, see attached jpeg file. When I use the Davis software all the numbers are correct and the Davis console displays the correct number. Cumulus does not! How could it indicate more rain today then in the last 24 hours? I have checked the configuration setting and they look correct. Any ideas would be appreciated as I am sending bad data to Weather underground.

I am not having that problem with Windows 8 as Davis console and Cumulus are the same. Presumably no changes made to rollover time or calibration? What are the readings from your Davis console in comparison to Cumulus?

Rollover time is the same as my previous computer, midnight, and it syncs with the computer clock. The configuration file was copied from my old computer, the only change was the com port. My Davis console says the rain today is 0.36 inches which is the correct amount.

Again Steve will know better, but have you checked the Sep13log.txt file to see when and how much rain was recorded in Cumulus to perhaps see a pattern?

Re: Rain data is crazy! Is it Windows 8?
I am not sure what is going on but it appears as there is some big gaps in the time, apparently it is missing big chunks of data. The last data record on the 23rd was at 20:30 and the first on the 24th was 8:25. The total rainfall numbers don't look correct.PaulMy wrote:Again Steve will know better, but have you checked the Sep13log.txt file to see when and how much rain was recorded in Cumulus to perhaps see a pattern?

Are your system settings the same as on the previous computer - date format etc?
If you zip up the diags folder and attach it, I'll take a look.

I just double checked the settings and they are identical. I do not see date format in the setup but it is synchronized to the PC clock.
I can't seem to attach the zipped folder as it is looking for a file, any suggestions?
Thanks,
Jerry

It's your system date format that you need to check, i.e. in Windows in the "Region" settings in the control panel. If it's not the same as before, then your current Windows system will not recognise the format of the dates saved by the previous version.
Instructions for attaching the diags folder are in the post linked to near the top of the forum - "Please click here before posting...".

Re: Rain data is crazy! Is it Windows 8?
With regards to the windows control panel it was initially set to central time zone when I installed Cumulus, the old computer was on eastern time zone. When I realized the clock was off one hour I changed the time zone to eastern. That was about 1 week ago. Could that change have caused a problem?steve wrote:It's your system date format that you need to check, i.e. in Windows in the "Region" settings in the control panel. Re: Rain data is crazy! Is it Windows 8?
Date settings look OK.
Contact with the console was lost here:
9/23/2013 20:00:37.530 : VP2: LoadCurrentVantageData_V, error = -32701
9/23/2013 20:00:37.610 : VP2: LoadCurrentVantageData_V, error = -32701
9/23/2013 20:00:37.690 : VP2: LoadCurrentVantageData_V, error = -32701
and not re-established until you restarted Cumulus here:
9/24/2013 08:30:27.983 : Cumulus 1.9.3 Build 1059 startup
So it didn't do the daily reset at midnight and hence the rain total for the 24th wasn't reset.
You're allowing the PC to suspend:
9/24/2013 09:36:47.297 : Windows SUSPEND broadcast received
which is causing lots of problems with your data, and may also be why communication was lost.
It looks like the problem with the clock being an hour off was causing problems with downloading data from the logger - the PC and the station probably had different times.
