FTP program - Resolved

Post by PaulMy »

I had been using FileZilla v.3.6.0.2 with good success but now it appears that a .js file upload gets distorted during the upload. I have downloaded v.3.7.3 with the same result. What is another good FTP program?

Paul

Edit:
Upon further research I learned that transfer in binary is best, but slower, so changed my FileZilla setup to binery and my problem disappeared.

I think binary mode is generally recommended for virtually everything now, it avoids all sorts of possible character set translation issues. Text mode is OK for files that only contain standard ASCII characters, but extended character sets can be unpredictable.

Another possibility is the way in which your editing program is encoding the file when saving the .js file before the upload. I have found that the best option when saving that type of file is "UTF-8 without BOM".

Thanks for the confirmation. I now have Filezilla set as Binary, and Notepad++ as Encode in UTF-8 without BOM and all my uploads seem fine and http://www.komokaweather.com/davconvp2CW.php seems to be working well.
