Re: advantage pro 2 setup
Cumulus doesn't have 'native' USB support for the VP2 (well, actually it does, but the code in the Davis DLL seems not to work). If you've tried selecting 'USB' for the VP type and that doesn't work, then you'll need to use the CP210X USB to Serial driver, which should have been supplied withn the station, but if not you can download it here: http://www.davisnet.com/support/weather ... driver.asp
Using that driver makes the VP2 look like it has a serial connection.

Hi,
I am going through the same 'issue'. Where did you download a copy of "CP210xManufacturing.dll" from?
I have Googled extensively, checked on the SiLabs website, and tried a link from another forum posting on here to nybbles..which is now broken.
Any help appreciated.

Re: advantage pro 2 setup
Doesn't this get installed when you install Weatherlink? Can you clarify what it is you need it for?
Edit: I've put a copy of it here: http://nybbles.co.uk/downloads/CP210xManufacturing.dll

Re: advantage pro 2 setup
Thanks Steve,
I have installed and running perfectly WeatherLink 5.8.3, and despite the fact Davis say it includes updated “CP210xManufacturing.dll” when I follow the advice from above to GTB, i.e downloading
http://www.davisnet.com/support/weather ... driver.asp
This produces an error saying “ The program can’t start because CP210xManufacturing.dll is missing from your computer.”
Looking in the WeatherLink directory (folder), I can see a copy of the .dll already existing, so not entirely sure why it cannot see it?
I will have a play later, and let you know outcome.
Thanks for your help, as always.

Re: advantage pro 2 setup
I guess the driver install can't see it because it's in the WL folder rather than the system folder?
I don't know if the DLL I've uploaded is the latest - it was the one that came with the Davis SDK.

Re: advantage pro 2 setup
Hello - Apologies if this is the wrong place to post this - i am trying to use my Davis Vantage Pro with Cumulus and have been trying to follow and fix the issues with Weatherlink USB and the USB-to-serial conversion. I have tried to use the file on the davis web site but i also get the "CP210xManufacturing.dll can't be found on your computer error despite the fact that the dll exists in the Weatherlink directory - could you possibly steer me in the right direction? thanks so much - i really hope this works.

Unfortunately the previous poster didn't come back with whatever he did to resolve the problem (assuming he did). Have you installed Weatherlink?

Re: advantage pro 2 setup
hello - thanks very much for the response - i have installed weatherlink - and it works fine on the desktop. My goal is to build a webpage to share the weather information with people in my town and after some research it seems like your program is well-suited for it (and the screenshots look great). If i cant figure out the issue i suppose i can call Davis on monday and ask why that patch wont install.
best regards,
Colin

Re: advantage pro 2 setup
so some progress - i generally followed this advice found on another forum post, which is here:
http://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=15291.0
the important bit is this:
http://www.davisnet.com/support/weather ... twareID=43
NOW - onto the next bit - how to get my weather info onto the web - is there a primer or quick how-to on the forums anywhere> I know i need to find somewhere to host etc.... but would like to avoid reinventing the wheel if possible. Thanks very much for your help with all of this. I'll toast you from a far with a glass of Highland Park........

the important bit is this:
the key was number 7 - you have to run that program that you get from Davis from WITHIN the Weatherlink folder. The program can be found here:Steve - here is a step by step description of converting a Davis VP2 from USB to serial mode. Feel free to add/share this anywhere you see fit.
1. Disregard any information about downloading a CP210X driver from Davis or directly from Silicon Labs. This is a pathway to insanity.
2. Go to the Davis website and download the latest version of the WeatherLink Updater at: http://www.davisnet.com/support/weather ... _sftwr.asp
3. Disconnect the Data Logger
4. Run the updater program
5. The Updater will install the "manufacturing.dll" and the CP210X Serial Converter
6. Reconnect the Data Logger
7. Go to your Start Menu and run the "CP210X USB to Serial Converter" in the WeatherLink Group
8. Go to Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager
9. Click on Ports
10. Click on Silicon Labs CP210x USB to UART Bridge
11. Select properties
12. Click on Port Settings
13. Set to 19200 (if not already)
14. Note the Com Port number also
15. Procede with Cumulus Install
Note. If you don't know your data logger Archive Interval Setting, run the WL setup screen to find/set it to the desired interval. Unfortunately, if you change the setting it will flush the Archive Memory. I guess this is the price of forgetfulness.

Re: advantage pro 2 setup
I'm about to purchase a Davis Vantage Pro 2 Plus, however I'm wondering which Datalogger is best to get to use with Cumulus - the USB one or the IP one?

Re: advantage pro 2 setup
It doesn't matter as far as Cumulus is concerned. The USB one is simpler and cheaper, so unless you really want the facilities that the IP logger provides, go with USB. As long as you run it in virtual serial mode, it will be fine.

Re: advantage pro 2 setup
Thanks Steve, I was a little concerned about the USB given the steps to ensure it works however after re-reading it, it doesn't seem that hard.
