Cumulus Support

I've noticed that for some reason twitter is only updating at random intervals. It should upload every ten minutes but this seems to have stopped. I've enabled debug mode but there hasn't been an attempt to upload in thirty odd minutes or it's not logging the attempts.

When you turn on debug, Twitter uploads are logged to the diags file. Mine's been tweeting every 30 minutes as usual, so it's likely an issue somewhere between your PC and Twitter.

Can't see how as nothing has changed. Weather underground is uploading that's shown in the log but nothing relating to twitter as far as I can see.
Now twitter has just updated but I can't see it the logfile. I'm wondering if I've hit the update limit as I have more than one program uploading.

How do you know that nothing has changed between you and Twitter? This is the internet, it changes all the time. Servers and routers have problems from time to time.

I think you're allowed 1000 tweets per day via the API, but there are also limits over shorter periods, and I don't know what they are. Theoretically there are limits on the number of automated tweets you can make compared to 'manual' tweets, but they don't seem to police that currently. The day they start doing that is going to be the end of tweeting from Cumulus for a lot of people.

403 can be returned for a number of reasons, but one reason is that you have exceeded a limit on number of tweets for a particular period.

Yeh two probably a twitter problem more than anything.

Well turned it off for the night. Looks like I'll keep hitting the limit for some reason so I'll let it reset overnight.

Apparently the limits (apart from the 1000 per day upper threshold) are split into varying periods of time during the day, with varying limits, and they deliberately don't say what those are.

ah well looks like it's permanently partly broken. Twitter doesn't support third party apps so I'm a bit stuck.

I'll turn mine up to every 10 minutes to see what happens. When you say you have "more than one program updating" do you mean multiple copies of Cumulus, or other software entirely? How often are you trying to update, altogether?

Is it possible that your data isn't changing between some updates? Twitter rejects duplicate updates.

I've got two apps Lightning 2000 now turned off and Cumulus which I now have set to set at 60 minutes. The data should be changing I can't see any reason why not.
I've revoked access and allowed it to reset but still get 403 forbidden that was an hour ago. I can post directly onto twitter.

Looks like cumulus is limited to one tweet per hour. Looks like the change occurred on the 14th.
I re-activated lightning 2000 which does do direct messaging which cumulus doesn't. However that only tweets if there's lightning around which there isn't very much off at the moment.
