How do you test your site for numerous devices???

Just curious, other than rushing out and purchasing all the latest hand held devices in various screen formats, is any one using a simulator/software to test their websites for compatibility?
A 'Google' search reveals many sites that apparently offer such a service but, most to me appear to be poor in testing or bury the service in advertisments. I would have thought by now their may have been a software to download/install locally..........

Browsers like Firefox offer 'Responsive Design View' (in tools menu) that tests different screen resolutions and rotates between portrait and landscape.
Apple devices can be simulated using
http://www.testiphone.com/.
You can use a search engine to find more.

Although not mentioned in the above blog, the
WebPagetest site not only offers a free online web site detailed performance test, it also make available the WebPagetest as a software package for installation/running on private/own web server (with an OS that supports both Apache and PHP):

Sometimes you do not see what is right under your nose (eyes)

Chrome has the settings under options in the dev tools.

Mark, I am failing to find this option in the 'developer tools'

There is a little cog wheel you have to click. I admit it is not obvious.

OK, got it, thanks. It appears from an initial 'play' that Chrome provides a better representation of 'mobile' devices than 'FireFox'.
