problems with UV and Solar Radiation uploads to Wunderground

Post by piconut »

I recently upgraded from an old VPro1 to a new VPro 2 and I added the UV and Solar Radiation sensors with the new unit. I configured Cumulus to show and plot the data from those sensors and everything looks fine there. I also upload data to Wunderground and I checked the option in Cumulus to add the UV and Solar Radiation data to the upload. However, when I view that data on Wunderground, it looks "spotty" whereas the other temperature, humidity, pressure, etc. data looks fine. I've emailed William at Wunderground to see if he knows what is happening and I also thought I would post here to see if anyone had seen this before. I've also attached my FTP and Debug logs in hopes that one of the gurus will be able to glean some info and help me find a solution.

Here is what the data looks like on Wunderground:

From the debug log, I can see that Cumulus is sending reasonable values for UV and Solar Radiation, so it appears to be an issue at the WU end. Something to do with 'rapid fire', perhaps.

I turned off rapid fire to see if that helps.

You seem to have something else updating WU in addition to Cumulus. Perhaps there's a connection between that and the problem at WU. Perhaps WU finds that confusing.

Well, I was using VWS to update WU before I started using Cumulus. When I got my new VPro2, I continued to use VWS. However, Just a couple days ago I switched over to using Cumulus to update WU and I unchecked the "Update Wunderground" option in VWS. When I went back to check those settings a few minutes ago, I noted that the "Upload Archived Data" option is VWS was still checked (and I guess when I unchecked the "Update Wunderground" option I assumed that all data would stop flowing to WU, but apparently not).

So, to make a long story even longer, just now I unchecked the other option in VWS so now no data should be flowing to WU from VWS.

How did you figure out that data was flowing to WU from another source, and is there a way you can check that for me now that I have both options turned off in VWS?

Thanks for your help!

D'oh! Rapid Fire was still checked too and I just unchecked that!

OK, NOW no data should be flowing from VWS to WU!

D'oh!

I thought it odd that some of your tabular data had cloud cover, so I clicked 'comma delimited file' and saw that only a few entries were from Cumulus. So I think the problem was a combination of the multiple upload source and the way WU handles rapid fire (i.e. how it decides which uploads to save).

So I think that cloud data came from my local METAR station that I had originally configured VWS to merge with my observation data.

So do you think it would be OK for me to turn rapid fire back on in Cumulus?

I suspect so. Once WU has forgotten that it was getting data from VWS it should start handling the Cumulus uploads correctly.

Everything seems to working fine now. The only issue is that the UV and Solar Radiation data is not showing up in the WU Tabular columns but I suspect that this may change once they get a full day of correct data.

Thanks for your help Steve!
