Yes, indeed. There are all kinds of things that can affect it. This is why some people don't believe in applying any scaling, and quoting the actual figures with an explanation of the siting of the anemometer.

Hmmm. So that suggests that the Cumulus calculation of 18 seems a bit low, given that peak gust.
