Problems with Archived Data

Post by rchrdm »

I am using a Weatherwise weather station.

1. Some of the records in "Recent Extremes" (e.g., temp, barometer, etc.) continue to appear although I have deleted the data files from the Cumulus folder and even re-installed the software. I also erased the memory of the weather station's LCD base station. The data just keep coming back! In fact, I changed the units from hPa to inches, and the data are still displayed in hPa. How do I get rid of these data? Do you think maybe they are stored in the sensor package on the roof? (I have also emailed the seller.)

2. After running for a while, the red "Error" light on the Cumulus display starts to blink. If I close and re-open, it stops. Why does it start blinking? (The weather station LCD unit is still working OK.)

You haven't explained why you want to get rid of the recent extreme values, but today's highs and lows are stored in the data folder in today.ini. Yesterdays are in yesterday.ini. You can stop Cumulus and edit those if for some reason they contain wrong information. A completely new installation of Cumulus doesn't download data from the logger so the figures aren't coming from the logger, assuming you deleted everything, including cumulus.ini.

Changing the units on the console has no effect as far as Cumulus is concerned. Changing units in Cumulus has dire consequences, as warned in the readme.txt file and on the station settings screen itself. But it sounds like you have only changed the console, if Cumulus is still displaying the same units.

Click on the error light. See the FAQ http://wiki.sandaysoft.com/a/FAQ#My_.27 ... s_flashing

Thanks, Steve. I can see why it is more effective to use the forum for Q&A, since everyone can see the answers.

First, I wanted to clear all the stored data out and start again. I had changed the units for the barometer and just wanted the correct numbers to appear. What is the difference between changing the units the "Console" and "Cumulus"? I read that changing units can mess up the logged data.

Also, I may move my weather station to another location, and I would want to clear out the saved data and start a new log.

Now, for some reason, the units and data are correct (barometer showing in inches).

When I enter my altitude in the setup menu, does it automatically adjust the barometric pressure to sea level?

Changing the units on the console only affects the console. Changing units in Cumulus only affects Cumulus. Cumulus writes data to the logs in the units you have selected in Cumulus. Hence, if you change units in Cumulus after the first time you run it, it will assume that the values in the logs are in the new units and they will hence be incorrect.

The altitude setting does not affect the displayed pressure; the help does make this clear. Cumulus reads sea level pressure from the console, so you have to set the 'relative pressure' on the console so that it reads correctly, and then start Cumulus. Instructions for setting the relative pressure on the console are in the manual.

Steve

Yes, I will set my altitude in my weather station. I read the Help on this.

You mean we really are supposed to read the help files?? :-)
