Trialling of New Script

Post by 6719jason »

I have come up with a useful script, which can be easily implemented into your weather station website.

The Script is, one which forecasts the ideal conditions needed for effective drying of Laundry.

A strange script but I am sure that, many will benefit.

Feedback requested and comments welcome.

Hi Jason, there seems to be a slight fault with your page when viewing with Firefox.

I have copied part of the page which shows your email etc over righting some station info
on the middle of the page, it shows fine with Explorer the same txt being at the
bottom right.

really like these things.
only think i changed was the transparancy,so it is the same as the rest of the page.

if you change:
<p style="text-align: center"><span style="background-color: #C0CAD3">
<font face="Century Gothic" color="#FF0000">Laundry Drying Conditions:

into:
<p style="text-align: center"><span style="text/css"><font color="#3300CC">Laundry
Drying Conditions:

you have no font background colour.
you can change the font colour.
only thing is it also uses the font on your page.

could you also make one of these using the wind speed, then showing "breeze, hurricane etc" or the windforce, like:
0-3km/h=force1?
i know it's showing in the data field.but i would like to have it as a standalone script

If you going to add any great amount of JavaScript to your pages, you should consider playing with any of the several 'AJAX' scripts on the site, which will also allow you update your data without forcing a page refresh ;)

eg. http://www.dickie.webfusion.co.uk/cumul ... index.html

experiment: http://www.dickie.webfusion.co.uk/betel ... spray.html

and a bit of work in progress: http://www.dickie.webfusion.co.uk/betel ... oard2.html

As you can see, you can use JavaScript to control ANY content, including graphics !

Be prepared for many headaches and sleepless nights

thanks,jason.looking forward to it :D .

as for AJAX,looks difficult but i am intriged.
especially for the pageload.
i now find eg the windgauges on the gauges page a bit sluggish on first load(could be because i use opera,it has some issues with javascript).
love the wind stuff on the dasboardpage(worth a headache, nights are already short for me  )

Dear Hans,

I have attached to this post, the script you kindly asked me to make for you.

I have made 4 versions as I understand that not everyone uses the same units.

There is a MPH, M/S, KM/H and a KTS version.

You may experience a slight difference to the description the Beaufort Scale Gives and This Script.

I have also, modified the Washing Drying Conditions Script, which is also attached.

I hope these scripts can be of use to all.

thanks very much for the script.
i do have a few problems with it.
i use dreamweaver to edit my pages.
when i paste the lines in my page,it gives a fault with this line:
<span style="text/css"><font color="#3300CC">

which is strange, for it's the same line i used for the laundry script.

secondly,i have no <#wlatest> on the index page so i changed that into <#wgust>
however,that gives no line visible
in the sourcecode of my page #wgust has a value of eg: 22,0
so i think the decimal messes it up.

my knowledge of this is very basic so now i am stuck

Okay, thanks for informing me of the faults. I will try and edit the scripts sometime in the week for you.

Assuming you are using the KM/H Version, I have edited the script and attached it to this message. Please reply asap with results.

Okay, thanks for speedy reply. Will have another quick look at the script. Is the <#wgust> Tag definately on the page? If <#wgust> displays differently in Dreamweaver, would you be able to copy and paste how it is displayed into a reply message. Thanks
