Been awhile since I last posted but anyway my Anemometer packed up the other day. Jumped up on the roof and bought it down to find it would spin one way but just stop on trying to spin the correct way.
Prided the top off and found the bearing underneath had given up the ghost. Replaced the bearing with one (5 x 10) I got from a modelers shop (only place I could find one) put it back up on it mount and now we are good to go again. I should have taken some pics but forgot at the time and to be honest its a 30 second fix if you have a spare bearing.

Anyway just in case it happens to somebody else which I am sure it has its a very easy fix.

It is an easy fix, I agree. I got given a "broken" one that did the same. I just oiled the bearings. How much do the bearings cost and compared to a new unit? I got a replacement anemometer for Au$22 (while the whole system will cost up to $179). And where would you find a bearing like that? (EDIT- you say modellers shop, like for model airplanes and cars. That would be a good start. I'll need to keep that in mind. cheers).

Ebay is often a good starting point and also several links have been posted on this forum (but the search on phpBB seems universally poor). It's a "standard" size of 10 x 5 x 5 (or maybe 4) mm. Perhaps only £1 or £2 (Au$3) but shipping often more than doubles that. The quality should be far better than is fitted by FO, but how long will/do the plastics of the anemometer body survive in the Australian UV?

We're rather spoilt for choice in the UK because Maplin sells a complete replacement anemometer head for £2.50 (~AU$4), but I did see a listing on Ebay for an identical item at £19.99 (~AU$35).
