Laptop broken?

Post by kapo »

I wonder if my laptop is broken or what? That laptop is old XP-Win machine. I tried to install Cum in it, and once I managed to, But after one day it became crazy.... It started to wiev temp about 2000 C and wind about 3000 km/h and so on... I started to inspect it, and that calibration page is full of 9999,999 about every raw and column... And it cannot to change those values.... I uninstalled Cum, and that new install is same kind of.... In the beginnig Cum worked o.k. but now it is this kind of broken. Could it be this laptop or what it should be?
Thanks

It sounds more like a Windows problem than a problem with the laptop itself.

Regarding not being able to change the values, someone else had a problem with some of the edit fields in Cumulus (including the calibration ones), and I changed the ones on the station settings screen to see if that helped, and if it did I was going to change the others. But they didn't get back to me to let me know if it worked.

If you zip up the diags folder and attach it, I'll see if I can see anything. Could you also attach a screen shot of your calibration settings screen, please?

It's definitely those calibration settings causing the problem, but I don't know how they got like that. It might be the same problem with those edit fields that someone else was seeing. You could try this: stop Cumulus and edit cumulus.ini. Look for the calibration settings section, it starts with [Offsets]. You should be able to work out what each setting means. Change them to something sensible (1 for the multipliers, 0 for the offsets). You don't need to worry about the spike removal settings as you have a Davis so they don't apply. Then start Cumulus and see if it works OK. You'll have to remove the old data. Don't open the calibration settings window.

OK. Hopefully it will work OK as long as you don't use the calibration settings.

When you're happy that it's OK, we can look at the issue with the edit fields. I have already replaced the ones on the station settings screen. If you open that and see if you can use the pressure extremes settings in the bottom right hand corner. If that works OK, I can look at changing all the other ones, but I need confirmation that it does work before I do it, as there's a lot to change.

No, they don't change nowhere. in the bottom right in station settings... This Cum version is the last "stable" version 1.93. Can I update this newer? or is it too dangerous?

You'll need to install 1.9.4 to get the changes I made. Beta builds are usually safe, but as it happens there is an issue in build 1078 which might affect you, so don't install that. I'll be uploading a new build later today.

I installed that new version of Cumulus and it seems to work, except that forecast is very strange??? And now it gave to change those two valids in station settings page.... When I dare to try that calibration page? I don't have any needs to change those in this moment, I changed those what I needed in Weather link... The cloudbase pic have changed right again after that new download...
couple pics attached about that strange forecast...

You've got the Cumulus forecast selected now, and the pressure extreme settings are wrong - can you confirm that you were able to change those OK? If so, you probably want to return those settings to 950 and 1050 mb, and unselect 'Cumulus forecast' so you get the Davis forecast.

If you can confirm that this build now lets you change those pressure extreme settings, I can start changing the other edit fields in Cumulus (including the ones on the calibration screen) as the existing ones seem to cause problems for a few people (as you found).

Yep, I could change those values... and it gave to save those too, and I changed that Davis forecast to appear as main console forecast, and it gives "normal" forecast now....
