I now have a manual rain gauge, but looking back over my rain reading since 2009 I have one or two quite exceptional reading for eaither rate or total rainfall.

I am of the south west coast of Wales at an altitude of just over 100m. Our area is said to be the wettest part of the county. That being said I would like to know the experience of other UK weather watchers. What sort of maximum reading you consider realistic are you encountering?

My maximum recorded stands at 49.2mm]
My maximum rate rate is a staggering 835.2mm on a day when the total was 1.4mm!

Cumulus attempts to automatically cope with the weird rain readings that a Fine Offset station sometimes supplies, as far as the total goes. But for the rate, it's up to you to set a suitable 'spike removal' setting.
