Gaps in my 'dayfile.txt data.

Post by geoffw »

I've rather neglected my weather station over the past few months and have just discovered big gaps in the dayfile.txt file prior to the 02/12/12. For the earlier period there are only a few sporadic daily entries. I started recording in May 2009. I have managed to extract from backups all of the data up the 16th April 2012, but now have a gap until the 2nd December last year in my dayfile.txt.

I do have the monthly datafiles, so I was wondering if anyone has had experience of mining those files to recreate the missing 'dafile.txt' entries.

....... and any suggestions as to why this might have happened?

Missing dayfile.txt entries are caused by the end of day rollover not being done. The most common cause of this is allowing the PC to sleep while Cumulus is running. You can use the dayfile.txt editor in Cumulus to fill in the missing dates, but if the PC has been sleeping, then you will be missing some of the data required to build the entries.

Steve

I suspect he reason is I used to keep the PC linked to the weather station console switched on 24/7,but about a year ago decided to turn off the machine at night - usually before midnight. At the same time I did not notice the batteries in the Console were flat as the USB link powered it up when the PC switched on each morning (I do not view the console it is in a cupboard). I think this is where the system got muddle at the daily roll over.

So I must remember to keep the batteries in the console charged.

It looks like I have a tedious job to reconstruct the missing dayfile entries form the monthly data!

Why tedious? The dayfile.txt editor will do it for you, as best as it can from the data available. Or are you proposing to do some manual adjusting to allow for the missing data?
