Latest Cumulus MX V4 release 4.0.1 (build 4023) - 16 May 2024
(Note that 4.1.0 (build 4024) - 05 June 2024 remains available, but usage of this version is not recommended - particularly for Davis stations - and the included utility in this distribution for migrating to v4 is known to contain errors affecting conversion of dayfile.txt)
Latest Cumulus MX V3 release 3.28.6 (build 3283) - 21 March 2024
Legacy Cumulus 1 release 1.9.4 (build 1099) - 28 November 2014

1078 - problem with accented characters
Hi Steve,
Release 1078 introduced errors in some of my webpages without any code modification.
Some accented characters do not appear the way they did before.
I tried to save my pages using Ansi mode, as usual, but without success.
And then, I had to come back to release 1077.
Your suggestions would be appreciated.
Marcel

Re: 1078 - problem with accented characters
There were no intentional changes to the saving of web pages between builds 1077 and 1078, only to the saving of NOAA reports. If the change also affects the saving of web pages somehow, I have no idea why that would be; the code is completely separate, and in any case there's no difference unless you've actually selected the option for the NOAA reports. Have you done that?

Re: 1078 - problem with accented characters
No Steve. I did not modify the NOAA settings.
No modification at all. Just upgrade as usual.
And strangely, not all the webpages suffer of the problem.
The problem was on Webcam and System pages mainly.

Re: 1078 - problem with accented characters
I've realised what's happened. I was experimenting to see if I could save processed web pages in UTF-8. I changed the code which saves 'extra' files, and I forgot to change the code back again. I'll have a fixed build available tomorrow - thanks for spotting it.

Re: 1078 - problem with accented characters
I insert my prob. in this topic, as I have near similar problem. Our finnis month name to june is kesäkuu, and short version is kesä. And ofcourse our new highs and lows which are became in these couple days have date: 01.01.1970. Also my monthlylog named kesä13log.txt is after ftp like attached above. And it should mind nothing to me how it looks, but I can't open / edit or get wieved the text or other data in it... What now?

Re: 1078 - problem with accented characters
What build of Cumulus are you using? I fixed the problem that was reported in this thread in build 1079. I don't understand the problem with the file name, I haven't changed anything to do with remote file names. I'm not sure why you're uploading the data log to your ftp server, but if the server can't handle the file names with the Finnish characters in them, change the remote file name to something else when you upload it.

build1079
I ftp those monthly logs to handle those in mySQL. Yes, I can remote the name of that monthly log, but where do that date 01.01.1970 come from?

In my webpage: current records, and weather trends and inNOOA style reports there is my weatherstation name :" SÄÄASEMA" those Ä-characters are wrong, those were before quite right, althought I remember so...

Re: 1078 - problem with accented characters
I'm not familiar with how Ken's templates work. Where is it getting that date from? What does Cumulus show? The 'default' date in Cumulus is 30/12/1899, I can't see any way that it could come up with a date of 1/1/1970, that's the Unix base date, which suggests that it's coming from the web server.kapo wrote:In my webpage: current records, and weather trends
I changed it so that was an option to select UTF-8 encoding, but the default setting shouldn't have changed anything. See the discussion with "pernaczy" towards the end of this thread: https://cumulus.hosiene.co.uk/viewtopic.p ... &start=135. You could try selecting the UTF-8 option (I assume you haven't already?) which should fix it; but you may have to change the web page (as generated by the PHP) to have charset=utf-8 instead of charset=ISO-8859-1. Unfortunately I don't know enough about of all of this to say whether or not that would affect other things on the page (e.g. the menu). I don't understand how "kesä" is correct but "Sääasema" is not, when they use the same characters. What does the report look like on the screen in Cumulus?and inNOOA style reports there is my weatherstation name :" SÄÄASEMA" those Ä-characters are wrong, those were before quite right, althought I remember so...
Perhaps those people more expert at web page encodings could comment.

Re: 1078 - problem with accented characters
So it's not related to the saving of the file, the characters are wrong to begin with. I've just tried putting Sääasema as my location in the NOAA setup, and it appeared correctly on the NOAA report in Cumulus. Perhaps you could try entering your location again on the NOAA setup screen.

Yep, it seemes to be right now.steve wrote:So it's not related to the saving of the file, the characters are wrong to begin with. But, dare I ask from Ken what is wrong, or do I let that record date to be as it is now and forget about the whole thing?

If you do a forum search with "1970", you'll find a few threads in the Saratoga Templates, section, e.g. this one: https://cumulus.hosiene.co.uk/viewtopic.p ... hilit=1970
