This appears to be a different problem, because the console hasn't locked up completely; when you restart Cumulus the console is responding. If you zip up the diags folder and attach it, I'll take a look. It might be better to start another thread with that, as this one is very long now and has lots of different station issues from lots of different people already.

I have seen that sometimes, when the console is restarted, it comes up with a seemingly-random relative pressure-offset. Not sure if this can be remedied.
An opinion should be the result of a thought process, not a substitution.

I have had this problem for some time, however I tend to think it has something to do with the units buffer, not being cleared, so only a total rest actually does this.
No power = zero buffer :)

No idea if the buffer can be cleared on command from cumulus and or it is a command that is getting corrupted and locking the unit up.

Unit is N96GY, cumulus latest version 1.93 build 1059

I know that some people in the past have theorised that it was something to do with a particular section of the memory in their station, but this was subsequently shown not to be the case. The problem seems to be caused when software reads the data at the same time that the station writes it, and the interface then locks up. Are you using the 'synchronise Fine Offset reads' setting? That seems to work for most people who are having this particular problem.

Thanks, strangely enough I had only just turned that on a couple of days ago, just to see if it would help.

The only other thing I could think of was a command getting corrupted and freezing the USB. Interrupt coming along maybe during a read and corrupting an internal register ?

Synchronise Fine Offset Reads enabled
PC -> USB controller -> Power Save OFF

It shouldn't have stopped synchronising at this point:

because the address (hex DC0) hadn't changed. And when the address did change a few minutes later, it locked up because it was writing while Cumulus was reading.

I don't know why it stopped synchronising too soon; I can only assume that there was a data corruption and it appeared that the address had changed, but just for one reading. The diags log doesn't contain every read, so unless you happened to have the debug log turned on, I can't say any more than that.

Thank You, now "Debug log" option is enabled.

Rain tip was stuck because of spider nest: station runs without problem for more than 10 days, filling more than half the datalogger capacity
Also with rain tip stuck, when I reset/restart console and cumulus, after 2 or 3 minutes a random value of rain last 1h appears on the console (for example 16 mm or 670 mm)

The figures for rain in the last hour and rain in the last 24 hours rely on the station's total rain counter behaving sensibly, and as we all know, quite often with Fine Offset stations it doesn't, including when the station has been reset. It's very hard to cater for that with those two particular calculations.

those fine offsets can be spider sealed easily with a fine alu/fibre mesh (to allow rain out) covering the lower apertures. I glued mine (actually an old table tennis net) on with hot melt.

with this latest version took two months without communication problems. I have branded the Fine Offset option Synchronise Reads.
Maybe it's the ultimate solution to this problem.

Someone could test the effectiveness of this option? "Fine Offset reads Synchronise". I upgraded yesterday cumulus, did not know of a new revision 1.9.3 and check this box, we will see if it is effective.
Thank you for working with this problem since many have this economic weather station.

I have had this problem 4 - 5 times over he last few months. I have found no pattern as things have been going well up until then. I have not been able to pick a pattern as to when it locks up.
Cumulus will not respond at all and requires task manager to shut down. I am running the weather station a Fine Offset 24 / 7 on a Toshiba laptop with USB 2.0 ports.

This is with the "Synchronise Fine Offset Reads" setting? Note that there was a bug in the code that performed the synchronise which meant that it didn't work all the time; I can't remember when I fixed it, but it's likely that it was in 1.9.4.
Cumulus will not respond at all and requires task manager to shut down.
This is fixed in 1.9.4.

The final beta build (1058) of 1.9.3 I think.
