You'll get severe wind turbulence from the fence as it is.

Re: Peoples weather station photos
This is a bit unconventional I know, but it works. A natural Stevenson Screen....
The temperature and humidity sensor is hidden inside the bush (you can see the cables a the top). The bush itself grows in a raised bed, so the sensor is around a metre above ground level. Seems to work pretty well.

Re: Peoples weather station photos
Would you not get false readings from the humidity sensor, with the plant probably being more moist than the surrounding atmosphere.
I LOVE the idea tho, its brilliant

Re: Peoples weather station photos
Humidity readings are comparable with those from other nearby stations, so I don't think that this is a problem.
For example, my current reading is 59%. That from a Davis based station 5 miles away is 62%.

Re: Peoples weather station photos
Hi everyone,
Here are some pictures of my setup. I purchased a Fine Offset WH1091 from an Ebay seller here in Australia about one month ago and have mounted the sensors on a pole I recently put up for a TV antenna. The sensor array is mounted as high as I could physically reach so that the tile roof would have little ( if any ) impact on temperature readings.
The receiver is connected to my media centre pc which is permanently on and i'm using Cumulus 1.9.1 which is configured to upload data to findu.com. Tonight I configured Cumulus to upload it's web data to my webspace provided by my ISP.
For anyone interested my weather station is at http://theweather.dyndns.org
Here are the pictures
Regards,
Mike
EDIT: Deleted over sized pictures and uploaded reduced versions.

Re: Peoples weather station photos
Sorry about that. I uploaded them late last night after finishing up with the website and some other things and didn't think to check the size of the photo's before uploading. I have reduced them to 800x600 as per other photo's i've come seen on the forum.robynfali wrote:mike, any chance you can delete the photo, and re-upload it after making it a little smaller? cheers

Re: Peoples weather station photos
I guess your just lucky. Perhaps yours was under reading from the start, as I know that the plants let out a lot of moisture. The stuff I've read suggests that it should be placed many meters away from plants for this very reason. For example, I can place my indoor unit on me, and it will go up 3% within a minute! Ever placed your hand on a window and see it fog up around your hand?MartinDn wrote:Humidity readings are comparable with those from other nearby stations, so I don't think that this is a problem.

There is a guy 2 suburbs away from me (2km?) and his reads 33% lower than mine! Maybe he should use your example, because it would be perfect for his situation.
Maybe even I could take up your example, as my temp readings are a couple over due to the fact it is placed over my hotmix driveway (although under an eve and 3 meters up). Even though mine reads 33% more than my nearest WU neighbour, it is still 6% under our local airport (20km away).
