CumulusMX version 3072 has stopped working

Post by Ralph1 »

I am well aware that this version of CumulusMX will be considered to be rather old, but it has served me very well for many years and I have seen no need to change it. However a problem has occurred recently which I can't seem to solve. Normally the output of CumulusMX goes to Weather Display on my website and uses myrealtime.txt files to provide the connection. However, recently, for no apparent reason this output has stuck on a date and time during November (23rd November) and when I look at this file it is stuck at this state. The realtime.txt file is perfectly OK date and time-wise. (myrealtime.txt seems to be a subset of realtime.txt). I do not know the mechanism by which data is transferred from one place to the other but after working OK for many years this link has stopped working. Does anyone have any idea what can be the problem here and how do I solve it?

Very difficult to diagnose anything without log files. Could you please zip up the contents of the MXdiags directory of your CumulusMX install and attach to a reply to this topic?

Thanks for your message freddie. Here is the zipped up file. I hope that will make it possible to find out what has gone wrong.

Further information: the problem ocurred at about 15:09 on 23rd November 2024 and the system has refused to work since.
All it does is it extracts data from my Instromet station and passes it to Weather Display on a Windows machine. The out put ceased at that time for no obvious aparent reason and has not worked since.

You have some mysql errors existing for some time before your site went offline:

Code: Select all

2024-11-05 08:15:00.789 Error encountered during custom minutes MySQL operation.
2024-11-05 08:15:00.789 You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MariaDB server version for the right syntax to use near 'local data infile 'C:/scripts/rainsun.txt' into table sunrain_data fields ter...' at line 1
I don't see any other errors in the log file. Cumulus seems to be connecting to your station and retrieving data. So the problem must be when data is sent to your website. Yet the only error is the mysql one. So I would start by checking your mysql database.

You should also switch on debug and data logging.

OK, thanks for that Fredddie. If you look at the output (myrealtime.txt) it continues to have a date of 23 11 2024 and time of 15:09 and refuses to change from that. That renders the data invalid as far as my system is concerned. So something is preventing the time advancing. I notice that if I check the status
by doing
ls -l Documents/CumulusMX/webfiles/myrealtime.txt
the answer is always -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 65 Nov 30 13:14 Documents/CumulusMX/webfiles/myrealtime.txt
Normally the root should say John rather than the root I think for it to work and the second r should be rw.

I have made a further discovery. If I go into the CumulusMX files, there is a file in Documents/CumulusMX/ called myrealtime.txt. This file reads out date and time and today it is reading out the date 23:11:2024 and time 15:09 plus otther information. If this file, generated by CumulusMX has the wrong date, and time .then there is no wonder that nothing works. So my only conclusion is that there is something wrong with CumulusMX which causes it to not keep up with today's date and time which are 30:11:2024 and 15:56. Please can you help me to resolve this. I've already tried reloading this version of CumulusMX and it made no difference. My website has been off the air for a week now and nobody seems to be able to work out what has gone wrong. I'd have thought that if CumulusMX gets the wrong date and time, clearly nothing is going to work. I am very grateful to you, Freddie for looking at this but it does look as though whatever is wrong is quite difficult to spot.

So my only conclusion is that there is something wrong with CumulusMX
Before that conclusion...
(myrealtime.txt seems to be a subset of realtime.txt)
I don't believe myrealtime.txt is a standard CMX file. Presumably this has a source file myrealtimeT.txt (or another name) and this file has webtags for CMX to process and save as myrealtime.txt (or is a copy and rename of the CMX actual realtime.txt that is autosaved by CMX in \CumulusMX. Make sure this source file is added to your Extra web files tab for processing and uploading as a processed myrealtime.txt to where it is expected.

Enjoy,
Paul

It's an old version of MX and does not contain all the info of later versions in the log files.
We need a log file with debug logging enabled to take this any further.

There are no upload errors, so if they are not working, are uploads still configured to happen?

In addition to the MySQL error, your Nov24log.txt has at least errors in it.

Error at line 32679 of data/Nov24log.txt
Error on line 39734 of data/Nov24log.txt

And as Paul pointed out myrealtime.txt is not a file Cumulus creates as standard, it must be something you have added to the Extra Files

I'm glad to say I managed to get it working again. The myrealtime.txt files which control its operation were effectively locked as they were only changeable by root. I managed to correct that and now all is working again. Thanks for those including Freddie, and Mark who made suggestions.
