Hi Jenny,
Glad to see you are getting it sorted.
Thank you for the kind words, greatly appreciated, glad to help anytime.
As for the banner, not much point leaving it there as I removed https://cumulussites.net/button.php?u=BeaumarisWX from my site, due to the following.
1: when the site goes down it hangs my site showing loading for a fair while trying to find cumulussites.net
2: As I use https (now only http is available) https will not allow http inclusion on a page (ie the http://cumulussites.net/button.php?u=BeaumarisWX ) will not display.

So I think just delete mine matey, that's fine.

Kindest Regards,
Tony Beaumaris, Tasmania (AUS)

Hi Jenny. Things look good now. Thanks for all your efforts.

One question. They are ordered by the Average count. I think they used to be by This Week.

Can the user change this or is it hardcoded?
Cheers,
Ray, Cheshire.

For this reason also I am disabling the link on my site. I am sorry but I fail to see why in this day and age any responsible hosting company cannot provide secure Https links.

It’s a weather stats site. Does such an innocuous place need the same security as your bank? My own site has been http for nearly 15 years and I’ve had no issues whatsoever.

I am sorry but yes it does especially where images are concerned where it is quite easy to inject a malware payload into a downloaded image. You can even do it with ChatGPT!!

Sorry but that is way outdated thinking.

It's also a Very Good Thing that https is becoming the "normal" and that browsers are starting to enforce it. A fair analogy is safety measures in cars - you can still go out there and drive, but it is a much safer experience these days, and you get that additional protection as standard.

There used to be the valid reason of cost that prevented many from implementing https, as at one time a certificate was hundreds of £ to purchase, but these days with the presence of LetsEncrypt and similar it is free.

Going back to the car analogy, I can remember back in the early eighties the implementation of compulsory seatbelt use and the massive resistance to that move (which exists today still in much reduced form). There's little doubt that seatbelt usage makes the driving experience safer. You may think that there is no comparison between this and http/https but the reasoning is still the same - it's something to protect you even if the probability of requiring that protection is.low.

So is the Average now permanent? How will I ever get higher up the league table and challenge the Manchester City of the weather world - Palmerston’s North?

Having a good week for visitors won’t change my position.
Cheers,
Ray, Cheshire.

No Jenny I am willing to wait and see if you can fix it, in the meantime I have disabled the link on my website. Once (hopefully) you have fixed it I will re-enable it.

There are a lot of choices in settings. These ones control the ranking.
1) Rank period
2) Ranking Method
3) Rank by average or just this Week.

I will play with these to see if I can make it more fair.
We now have:
1) Weekly
2) In ( I presume this means coming through from the website button) (It could mean in house, as with clicking on the banners)
3) Just this week. (This I presume means it will reset each week.)

If you have a look now it has reset. I guess it is a matter of clicking on buttons or banners to see what the ranking does.
If you have a look at any members stats you will see those tops banners as before had a lot of page loads. The way it is set now does not list them by page loads.

It is all changeable so any suggestions let us know :)

Cheers
Jenny

Something to think about re your banners.

When I am reading down I look for the banners on the other side of the world to see how cold they are. ( or in winter, how hot they are)
So I am looking for Finland, sweden, Canada etc at present.
Most banners are clearly worded so I know where they come from.

But there are a few I have no idea and I take no notice of them.
So I suggest make sure you have your full location either on your banner or in the Description.

At present there are 6 not clearly worded.
Putting (NL) means nothing to me.
My favourite - Phil's Backyard Weather :) :) :)

Just food for thought.

Cheers

@JennyLeez,

Page views has changed and orders by visits descending.

I agree that not showing where in the world you are makes your entry less valuable. NL is probably The Netherlands.
