Chart scale on new pressure chart

Post by philpugh »

I want to create a chart based around pressure and including other information (eg wind speed / direction)

So I created another chart in CutilsCharts.def thus:

Chart Pressure Title Atmospheric Pressure
Has WindBarbs Above
Plot Recent Pressure Colour red
EndCHART
Just to try it out. It does produce a graph but with the Y axis starting at 0 and not related to the Max/Min pressure values. The Overview chart displays pressure correctly scaled and on the non working chart the lower small chart seems to scale correctly also. Have I missed something here?

The problematic chart can be seen as "Pressure" from the chart drop down on my site.

Hi Phil,

I see it and I can reproduce it.

But if I add Temperature above that line - see my site, last chart on the drop down of the home page charts - the problem goes away.
However, if I use temperature as the second line in the chart and pressure as the first the problem is back.

So the first line has the y-axis cross the x-axis at zero, all other axis cross the x-axis by the soft minimum value.
I will have to study that. This is a HighCharts feature - I think it is a feature - I have not paid much attention to.

No guarantee if and when I find a good solution, but you can workaround by adding other lines (e.g. wind) as a first line.
I'll get back on this.
Any suggestion by a HighCharts specialist is welcome ;)

I do have a solution but I will study a bit further to find an optimum.
Besides that I would like to ask some details at Highcharts support.

So, in short, since there is a workaround, I will provide the generic solution starting version 7.
This most likely will sync with CMX v4 but it may be a bit later depending on how things go.

Thanks Hans. I will add other lines first.

And especially ones that use the soft minimum of 0 so you won't notice the issue ;)

I obtained the correct scaling by adding WindSpeed. Will start to add other shortly

thanks

Good

Any plot variable with a soft/hard minimum of zero would do. Just made the change for the new version.
Than it is irrelevant which variable goes first.
