Am unable to upload data to website.

From build 3044 the development baton passed to Mark Crossley. Mark has been responsible for all the Builds since. He has made the code available on GitHub. It is Mark's hope that others will join in this development, but at the very least he welcomes your ideas for future developments (see Cumulus MX Development suggestions).

Is realtime.txt created and in \CumulusMX main folder and is realtimegauges.txt created and in \CumulusMX\web? The realtimegaugesT.txt template file should already be in your \CumulusMX\\web folder.

The .json files do not appear to be in your https://calico.co.uk/weather/ folder. What are your settings for Remote FTP Directory?

Enjoy,
Paul

Morning Paul,
A copy of realtime.txt is present in the CMX main folder BUT is is timestamped 15.22hrs - effectively the same time that the one upload that seemed to work.
Also in the same folder is realtimegauges.txt and this is NOT in the web folder although the template is in the web folder.
Remote FTP Directory is set as www.calico.co.uk/weather

Does any of the above make sense as to why?

Paul is probably still fast asleep so I'll give it a go until he takes over again : The URL you give as FTP path is the website URL (without the http://) and therefore is probably incorrect (the error message also says: No such file or directory).

I think it should be something like public_html/weather (not sure if there mist be a leading slash). The public_html part is dependent on what system your provider is using and you should be able to find the correct directory spec from your FTP client.

Hi Hans,

Yes, I assume Paul was still asleep based on his location! Thanks for comment re FTP path. I have spoken with my host and now have a "corrected" pathway of "/calico.co.uk/weather" which apparently should work.

The host also advises that I should have "ftp." in front of host name - do you know if adding this causes any issues with the CMX upload? I have tried both with and without it to no avail.

Unfortunately I still get failure as "2023-12-11 11:18:52.559 FTP[Int]: Error connecting ftp - The remote certificate is invalid according to the validation procedure."

For whatever reason, I can upload to the site via FileZilla without any issues so am now totally lost - yet again.

Has your website got a security certificate installed as this is the message you get if you use SFTP or FTPS to connect to the server and it cannot find a security certificate.

An easy way to tell is if you try to connect to website using HTTPS://www.yourwebite name.co.uk/ and it says "Not Secure" then your Hosting service has not installed a certificate.

This can also happen if you are using plain FTP when your hosting service requires a secure connection using either SFTP or FTPS.

Most Hosting services will install a certificate for free if you ask them.

t.b.h. I don't think the host is correct. Check in your Filezilla FTP client your FTP root as I advised you to. Give a screenshot - of the highest level of directories - of the directories if that would help: it would show the directory names.

If he advises the URL to be ftp.calico.co.uk/weather than that may be correct. I can't see that from here.
But don't put it as protocol so DON'T do ftp://calico.co.uk/weather

If you try my additional advise and it still does not work no doubt Paul is awake by then ;)

That means the connection is OK, the only thing you need to do is set the path in CMX correct. Filezilla and CMX are independent and have no relation. It is the settings in CMX which count.

From what David says I can say that for http/https the certificate is installed: I can reach your site.

But trying ftp://calico.co.uk/weather/ does nothing. The least it should is ask for a un/pw but it does not. Do you have an FTP server installed at the host? Ah... when trying FTPS:// it does ask for a un/pw

So at least be sure you configured FTPS as a protocol (and not FTP)

Thanks "water" - I can access site via https without any warning messages so there is a certificate.

Am using SSL/TLS for FTP (FTPS) setting in CMX.

Website appears to be updating on a regular basis now that I am "ignoring certificate error".

Have a call logged with hosting site to see what they advise re certificates.

Thanks again for help.

Aha... Are you running on an RPi? Forget it, it's a PC win11 (first post).

Glad you got it working.

If you do mind me saying, if you get a Rpi for Chrimbo, may suggest you set it up and get used to running a Linux computer before you switch CumulusMX to it as running MX on an Rpi. It requires a great deal more techie knowledge than a Windows install.

I have mine running on a Windows 10, a Synology NAS and a Rpi, but then I have 54 years of IT experience at the developer level!!

Thanks for advice re Rpi - definitely it will be a learning curve - probably a downward spiral for me!

Hence trying to get CMX working on Windows first. I did try C several years ago but gave up on that version!

It's still good to try to find the cause for having to use "ignoring certificate error". That should not be necessary on Windows. It is known for RPi where the old root certificate was not disabled.
