Latest Cumulus MX V4 release 4.0.1 (build 4023) - 16 May 2024

(Note that 4.1.0 (build 4024) - 05 June 2024 remains available, but usage of this version is not recommended - particularly for Davis stations - and the included utility in this distribution for migrating to v4 is known to contain errors affecting conversion of dayfile.txt)

Latest Cumulus MX V3 release 3.28.6 (build 3283) - 21 March 2024

Legacy Cumulus 1 release 1.9.4 (build 1099) - 28 November 2014
(a patch is available for 1.9.4 build 1099 that extends the date range of drop-down menus to 2030)

6.19.0 beta - Locale and Date display

Post by HansR »

Version 6.19.0 (xx/xx/23) beta

I started a project to display all (or most) dates according to the locale used in the cumulusutils.ini file - e.g. Language=en-GB. The user cannot configure the date/time display otherwise. At some places (notably the clocks pane on the dashboard) the date will obey the locale but the time will not. In the dashboard panes the time will always be displayed with the HH:mm format. Other exceptions will be explicitly mentioned but the effort will be to have only the dashboard as exception.
  1. General: some minor formatting corrections for use of imperial units
  2. Beta 1: The Records, DayRecords and Top10 pages have been reworked to display the date/time in the local format used. This notably will be visible in NN/NB and US locales but as I do not know all subtleties of the locale/date formatting trickeries we may be surprised.
NOTE: This version will be beta as long as required but as the functionality will not change it can be used with pretty much zero risk.

If you start using this beta, please let me know you are using it and communicate your observations.

I will work my way way through all modules and the javascript slowly as it is summer and I will be away for several short periods. When away longer I will notify.

Beta 2 is now online in the first post.

Only pwsFWI has been modified including the analysis file (pwsFWIanalyse.csv) which should make handling this in spreadsheets easier.
This concludes all modules (not much date displays there). If I missed something please report.

The next beta will deal with the javascript (Dashboard) and (maybe) the Highcharts dates (the tooltips for the x-axis). That will take a bit more time.

@Patrick: Thanks

Hi Hans.
I have installed beta 6.19, and I cannot get the dateformat to show correct. OKJ in the daschboard 23-06-2023 but in the chartsdisplay and in the bottom it shows 06/23/2023.
Is there a solution for that (minor) problem.

It is also the records pages which use the US format (month first, than day number, than year). As far as I can see now you have the wrong locale set in your inifile. Could you post the [General] section of cumulusutils.ini here?

@mingjen: and the consequence of your exchange of the locale identifiers is that you need to rename your CUstringsDK to CUstringsDA to have the system working again.

Hello again. I have tried the locale da-DK and changed to CUstringsDA.ini, but it do not work for me.
Please see attached logfile.
I could get the right data to my site if I change CUstringsDA.ini to CUstringsEN.ini, but I think that is not the best way to do it, and I guess there can be other problems in that.

Hi,

Sorry, I was not clear enough apparently.
  1. The change to Language=da-DK is correct (da being the language code and DK being the country code (See here, use the alpha-2 coding).
  2. Your language file must have the name CUstringsDA.ini.
  3. However it says in the logfile :

    Code: Select all

2023-06-24 11:05:02.771 Warning Invalid Language for gauges: DA
2023-06-24 11:05:02.772 Warning Invalid Culture for the system : da-DK
    2023-06-24 11:05:02.772 Warning Using English GB locale : en-GB
That is a bug which I now fixed, please find the beta 3 attached.

Having done all that I hope the confusion for the Danmark locale is solved, if not please report here.
(And indeed renaming the Danish language file to a EN language file is not the way to go ;) )

@All: please find attached the beta 3 (executable only) which - besides the fix for the Denmark locale - contains the correct formatting handling for the date in the clock pane and some additional work in progress. What is left are some date issues in the Highcharts which I had planned for beta 3 as well. Now these will be handled later. Don't report issues in the charts for now.
