Ecowitt HP2553 and CMX

Post by falkunmalti »

Hi all

I just bought myself an Ecowitt HP2553 station including the WS80 Outdoor array, rain gauge and internal temp/humidity sensor. I am trying to get it to connect with my RPI. I have set the CMX station type to GW1000 and the correct ip address as suggested in an earlier post on this site, but the CMX display shows that the station is not connecting. I am obviously missing something simple. My RPI and HP2553 are on the 2.4GHZ wifi.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi Joe,

Could you please zip up the contents of the MXdiags folder in your CumulusMX installation and attach it to a reply to this topic? The reason for non-connection can be debugged then.

I think you have to set station type HTTP (Ecowitt).

Yep, the 255x does not support the local API - see https://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic ... #msg417956

Not sure why you need to reinstall, just set up the Custom Server on the HP2553 and alter the station type in the interface to use the HTTP Ecowitt.

Also if you are using Ecowitt.net to upload data set up the API and on the first load it should download your history.

Hi thanks for this. I really did not have to reinstall CMX but I di anyway and have it working properly now. I have the custom server set to my raspberry pi ip and /station/ecowitt as the path, I selected HTTP Ecowitt in CMX and left settings at default except for the MAC address. Must be something wrong still because after a few seconds Last Cumulus Update arrow turns red and the station update remains green although numbers are all 0. The CMX version is 3194.

You also need to have the port set to 8998, the Protocol type "same as Ecowitt", interval set to 16 seconds and of course it needs to be Enabled.

OK, there is nothing coming through to CMX from your station.

A couple of checks...

1. Have you set the port correctly on your custom station to 8998 (and the rest) as David suggested above?
2. Try the option to allow CMX to configure your station for you - though I'm not sure if that works on the 2553.
3. You are running on Linux, do you have the firewall enabled? Can you connect to the CMX dashboard from a browser on another machine on your network? If not you will have to create an in-bound firewall rule for TCP on port 8998.

under Settings --> Station settings --> General settings choose "HTTP (Ecowitt)" as station
then, further down, under HTTP (Ecowitt) setting is where the following picture begins (if "enable Gateway config" is NOT tagged)
the 2nd picture is what appears if "enable Gateway config" IS tagged
the 3rd picture is case 1 (not tagged) and completion of the config in the WS View (Plus) app
http(Ecowitt)-config.JPG
http(Ecowitt)-config.JPG
http(Ecowitt)-config3-WSView.JPG
- make sure the Server IP/Hostname is the (your RPi's) IP address ONLY (NO http:// etc. in front or some path behind !!)
- make sure your path is all lowercase letters and there is NO "/" at the end

The pictures were taken from the WS View Plus app - in the WS View app it's +/- the same, only different colours

You can verify the settings in your HP2551 console:
settings (gear wheel) --> Weather server [setup] ---> Setup --> customized [setup]
they should be the same as in the WS View (Plus) app
