Davis AirLink stopped data in CMX on June 19

From build 3044 the development baton passed to Mark Crossley. Mark has been responsible for all the Builds since. He has made the code available on GitHub. It is Mark's hope that others will join in this development, but at the very least he welcomes your ideas for future developments (see Cumulus MX Development suggestions).

Davis AirLink stopped data in CMX on June 19

Post by PaulMy »

While installing the latest CUtils version this morning and checking the Extra sensors page I found that my AirLink was not updating data in two separate CMX installs. The AirLink is and has been uploading fine to my Weatherlink.com site without interruption.

I run one CMX from WLL with AirLInk, with Davis Airlink settings: Added to station: This AirLink has been added as a Node to my main WLL station
All was ok and valid data logged in AirLink202206log.txt until 19/06/22 18:05. However all the AirLink202206log.txt interval logging after that was all zeros.
In doing investigation found that there was no API key or secret in Cumulus.ini
Copied these in from my Weatherlink.com account and now AirLink is again displaying and valid data being logged in this install.

I run another CMX from Vue console/WiFiLogger with Davis Airlink settings: Added to station: NOT enabled and instead have inserted the Weatherlink AP! key and secret.
All was ok and interval logged in this install in Airlink202206log.txt and also until 19/06/22 18:05, the same as the other install, And the same all zeros being logged after that.
During investigation found that the API key and secret was also missing from the settings and Cumulus.ini for this install.
I put these back in this morning but there is still no AirLink valid data showing in Dashboard Extra Sensors > Davis Airlink for this install, just all zeros.

My weatherlink.com data shows all valid Airlink data from before and after that 19/06/2022 18:05 date/time.

So two issues:
1. How can I get AirLink data back in CMX?
2. What may have caused to have both CMX installs lose the Airlink station at the same time?

There were no CMX updates or any setting changes within a few days of that date as best as I can recall.
MXdiags from June 19 is no longer available and current file is attached which seems to show it gets data from WL.com. And that it is writing to the log file, but it is actually all zeros. I did see this error:

Is it now working again?

I see on the site that there has been data until June 23 21h00 (the chart shows). That seems to differ from what you see.

[EDIT:] and I don't see data for the Ecowitt airquality sensor either.

Hi Paul,

So the AirLink you have added as a Node to your main station had lost it API settings for your WLL?

The API settings are used to retrieve health data once every 15 minutes (plus history catch-up at start-up if required), the AQ data is pulled directly from the AirLink on the local LAN.

Did you restart CMX after adding the API details back in? - to the main WLL station I assume
If so I think it is this that will have restarted the data.

Your AirLink hasn't changed IP address by any chance has it? the log shows CMX trying to contact it on 192.168.0.211 and failing.

@Hans
The http://www.komokaweather.com/cumulusmxwll/index.html is with the WLL and AirLink as a node to the station, and it is then updating the websites http://komokaweather.com/cumulusmxwll/t ... airquality including CUtils. It is the other CMX with Vue console/WifiLogger install that is not a Node to WLL that is failing.

@Mark
So the AirLink you have added as a Node to your main station had lost it API settings for your WLL?
Yes it did, and as noted above I was able to get it working again by adding back the APIs. I also did some CMX stop and restart through my troubleshooting process. The AirLink IP 192.168.0.211 has not changed.

It is the separate CMX install that uses Vue console/WiFiLogger and for which the Airlink is stand-alone and NOT added as a node to the WeatherLink Live station that also failed June 19 at 18:05 and still failing. I have thoroughly looked at the AirLink settings and think I have them correct.

This is from the Cumulus.ini

AirLink with WLL (now working)

Looks like we need to chalk this up as "Who knows!"

Overnight at 2:45 am the AirLink data started to show and be logged in the non-WLL CMX with the stand-alone AirLink settings.

Re: Davis AirLink stopped data in CMX on June 19

Post by PaulMy »

Not so fast...
Just found a couple of emails from Davis, with the first at 5:38 am today saying AirLink stopped reporting at 12:33 am, which I think is Davis Hayward PDT time and our 3:38 am EST. And the second at 6:18 am saying Airlink resumed and last updated at 3:18 am (again presume PDT) so our 6:18 EST.
However, looking a my Data on WL.com there was continuous AirLink data logged at the 5-minute intervals since midnight until current (each 5 minute log has some different AirLink data so that would indicate it wasn't locked, and was updating fine), so contrary what Davis email says.

So either a Davis WL.com issue or my AirLink going bad :(
Now all good with CMX showing and logging AirLink in all 3 installs

Enjoy,

Good for you.
What would we be without riddles ;)

But, sorry to say that the Cutils sites do not show the Airlink data/charts properly. So what is it there?
If necessary post the logfile(s) please.

Hi Hans,
I just did a run with UserAskedData so AirLink is updated (on both cumulusmx and cumulusmxwll sites).
I previously did an External Program Interval run of UserAskedData but I stopped that because of the continuous popups when I was working on the computer. I do have it to run website UserAskedData at day rollover. but not sure if that actually does both.
Daily program: C:\KomokaWeather\CumulusMX\utils\bin\cumulusutils.exe
A program or command to be run at the start of each day
Daily program parameters: website UserAskedData
Parameters for the above program or command
Enjoy,

Yes, that still surprises me. Isn't there somebody with more Windows setup experience who knows how to switch that off?
Otherwise, I don't know. You don't want to use the windows scheduler?
PaulMy wrote: Mon 27 Jun 2022 4:43 pm I do have it to run website UserAskedData at day rollover. but not sure if that actually does both.
I checked and 'Website' does NOT include UserAskedData. It is even worse: if CUtils encounters 'Website' it stops parsing other commandline arguments. So my advise would be to put UserAskedData as the first argument. If I understand correctly what I wrote, then it should first create the data and then regenerate the website.

I'd have to learn something new...
So my advise would be to put UserAskedData as the first argument.
Thanks for that suggestion, I just did a run with UserAskedData website, and that worked fine so have changed External Programs settings to that.
