Temperature average again

Post by HansR »

Just informational, not restarting the discussion. :)
We had some interesting discussions in the past on the calculation of the average temperature (read here and here, I thought it was an interesting re-read).
As a result I created my chart 'Clash of Averages' and below you find the screenshot for the last two months. Why I show this is because the difference between the CMX average and the (Tmax+Tmin)/2 estimator has for the first time in four years reached 4 °C. I find that a lot (normally it is around 1 degree).

For the relevance of this number read the referenced discussions and look into the meaning of Tavg in climate discussions.

It's interesting to note that the difference line averages out (by eye) at or just below zero. It would be interesting to know the average over a long period of time.

I can tell you that straight away:

    2022-06-16 22:07:32.972 Information GenerateClashOfAverages: Sum CumulusAverage 10,64342
    2022-06-16 22:07:32.973 Information GenerateClashOfAverages: Sum MinMaxAverage 10,78755

To be clear: these are the averages of the daily average temperature as found in the dayfile over a four year period on my station and the the minmax average on the same days over the same period. So the minmax average is a bit higher by 0.14 °C which is quite a lot on long term series (of which mine is a short one :) ).

(But anyway, any installation of CUtils finds these figures in the logfile (having logging set to info) )
