Graph issue on first load of website?

Post by philpugh »

Hi,

I have, over the weekend, installed cumulusutils and like the results - good work Hans.

However I have noticed a small issue when I access my website. On the first page it displays everything correctly apart from the last data point on the graph in the RH panel. This seems to show an erroneous last data point on each of the plots.

I have attached two images to try to show this...

My initial graph is the station overview. On the attached images it is noticeable on the rain accumulation and pressure lines.

After the first load of the site I zoomed into the latest few values to exaggerate the effect. "first load.png" shows a change at the last point - rain fall has decreased and the sun has started shining - it's below the horizon at the time !

'after refresh.png' shows the same area - with correct values in it after the first refresh of the graph (one minute)

It isn't a major issue but it looks very strange!

Regards

Something I did notice, is that the overview graph loads twice if you refresh the page..

@philpugh: Thanks for installing :D
I have seen this before and is indeed, as @Mapantz observes, a double load issue. This has been solved but apparently it is a regression error. I'll look at it when back behind the computer. Some patience required.

Thanks Hans,

No rush - it's not affecting data display elsewhere.

Hi Phil,

I think this is not a real bug (so, not a regression error), I think it is a configuration thing.

As far as I can see in CMX you did configure your Interval frequency to 1 minute. This is the frequency by which you upload all your data to your website, i.e. the parameter UpdateInterval in section [FTP site]. Default is 15 minutes, I personally did set it to 10 but your 1 minute is really too high a frequency. It confuses the CUtils loading algorithm and restarts loading while it did not finish its initialisation. I will make it a bit more robust but I suggest you change it to a higher number anyway. The default really is not irrational.

Having that parameter to the default (or a bit lower) should solve the issue. I would advise at least 10 minutes. Faster changes of the weather are hardly visible in the chart. There is no need to change the charts at the same frequency of the logging itself.

NOTE: setting it to 1 minute also kind of overloads your CMX-machine and your website account (because it transfers quite a bit of data every minute), it also overloads the client of every user which has the website active as the CUtils code reloads the new datasets at the interval frequency. Not sure if your provider has limits on data transfers but you might do some calculations on your data usage if you really want to use high frequency uploads. Overloading may not be the correct term as no doubt the machines and lines can handle the transfers, but it is more load than useful.

Hans,

Thanks for the response.

I will look at changing the web site upload rate but I host my own websites and the web server (NginX) is hosted on the same RPi 4 on which I run the two instances of CumulusMX. Data is copied to the server - not FTP'd.

Cheers

I get the point. I wrote:

and I think that would solve the problem in any circumstance. It will be implemented in the next release, for the time being you can use a 2 minute upload frequency which should solve the issue.

Hans,

I set the update to 2 mins on both my systems before you posted your last reply! And indeed it works - clean graphs 😎

Thanks
