Cumulus and WiFi

Post by Buddy1964 »

Hello
everybody, last night bei frggit WH1030 has quit to work because the Display is dead. So i am Looking for a new System and i have watched at froggit again and i have found the WH3000 or the WH6000. But, it seems the new models did not have an USB-Interface any more so it seems the only way to communicate with the Station is WiFi. So, is there a way that cumulus 1 or cumulus MX can communicate with the station direkt via WiFi?

Thanks for yout support
Greetings Uwe

The newer Froggit systems will work with Cumulus MX if you also buy the WiFi gateway GW-1000 device.

These devices do no provide a logger function, but if you can leave Cumulus MX running they work very well - and support the huge range of sensors Ecowitt are producing (Froggit is rebranded Ecowitt hardware).

The Froggit version of the WiFi gateway device that Ecowitt call GW-1000 is DP1500 at EUR 49.99 https://www.froggit.de/product_info.php ... ongle.html

It is effectively a display console without an actual display, so you can buy the outdoor sensor with a DP1500 and link it to Cumulus without having a display, if you want ...

Hi everbody,

thanks for the Information.

I think About bying this one:
https://www.froggit.de/product_info.php ... tware.html

doet it work with cumulus wx?

Then, i have downloadet cumulus wx but i habe never work with it.
If the new stations do not have a logger function i suppose the Station will Transfer the data to a web Portal like wheather Underground and cumulus wx will red it from this Portal back, is that true. Sorry for the questons but aftter several years in which i have not follow the new technolgy i Need several informations.

Thanks and greeting
Uwe

That model is quite an old one. It can connect to a PC, and Froggit supply it with software called WeatherSmart (on their download tab). As far as I know, Cumulus is not compatible with that.

You could buy https://www.froggit.de/product_info.php ... ensor.html
That has an outdoor sensor unit and a DP1500 'console without display' USB dongle that is compatible with Cumulus (its the same thing as Ecowitt GW-1000). You can buy something similar with a display if you want, but that is more expensive. For example, https://www.froggit.de/product_info.php ... erver.html plus a separate DP1500

As there is no data logger, you would need to conect it to a computer that runs 24/7. For that, many of us use a Raspberry Pi.

See this other thread for a report that Froggit WH3000SE (with DP1500 but no console display) is working well with CumulusMX and is seeming reliable and data consistent with the much more expensive Davis Vantage Vue.

Warning, Froggit is a reseller. They don't manufacture their hardware. This is important because you need to know that some Froggit systems are made by Fine Offset and some other models are made by Bresser. This means that depending on which model you get some will be compatible with the DP1500 and others won't. You need the DP1500 to be compatible with Cumulus MX. The WH6000 is a Bresser system and will not work with the DP1500. You have to know to keep like for like in terms of the manufacturer.

Good ones (all support DP1500 / GW1000)
HP1000, WH300, WH4000, WH2600

Bad ones:
WH6000, WH5500,
Ecowitt GW1000 | Meteobridge RPI | CumulusMX on Synology NAS

Hi,
You may be limited on newer stations to work with Cumulus 1, but Davis stations do.
CumulusMX will work with most newer stations and can be with USB or Serial logger, or IP WiFi.
Any reason why you want to stay with Cumulus1? Old Cumulus1 data can be copied into CumulusMX.

p.s. nice website

Enjoy,
Paul

Hi,
I use in my site templates from weather for you for ex. www.caboz.online/tempo
I think cumulos MX don't work with this
I have downloaded some of the Weather by You template but never actually used them so can't say what issues there would be. The gauges and graphs in Cumulus1 are different in CumulusMX. Generally the processing of webtags in template files is the same in CumulusMX as in Cumulus1.

Enjoy,
Paul
