Having manage to manually upload once, the automatic update doesn't seem to be updating the website. I turned on the FTP log which looks OK, the (non-template) files in ~cumulus/web are being rebuilt but the dates on the files at the Internet end are not altering. I tried with the rename, then turned that off and tried with the delete. I've also tried with a different browser just incase it's a browser cache problem - all to no avail.
The templates need tweaking, but I need to get the website working first.

Re: Website update not working.
If you've done a manual update OK, then your config is probably correct. If as you say the ftp log is OK - and shows all the transfers working correctly and going to the correct place, then I can only think that there's something odd about your web server that you need to resolve, but working completely in the dark it's hard to say what the problem might be.
Domain muchty-weather.co.uk doesn't appear to exist, by the way.

Re: Website update not working.
Oops - have fixed the website!
Have attached the FTP log. I deleted it and then ran the manual update again.
The host is uklinux.net, and the server is some flavour of Linux. Have never had a problem manually FTPing to it.

Does this not indicate a problem?
14:43:26:900 >|550 Failed to change directory.|
Wrong directory path configured, perhaps?

Re: Website update not working.
Yes, missed that one. But I thought it was correct - the URL www.nevis-view.co.uk/weather loads the site:
http://www.nevis-view.co.uk/weather/
Puzzled now, but that explains the problems I'm having. Are my eyes deceiving me that it's correctly spelt?

Re: Website update not working.
Quite often, more than just the name of the sub-folder as it appears on the web site is required; it depends how your provider has set things up. But the fact that a manual update works suggests that "weather" is all that is needed. Does the ftp log look different when you do a manual update?

Re: Website update not working.
Having done some more testing I was wrong about the manual update working. It generated the files on my PC and failed to upload them - I uploaded them manually with FileZilla.
What I have noticed is that the FTP progress window doesn't give a clue that that the cd failed, nor does it stop trying to upload at that point - would have thought it should.

(I had tried with a subdirectory wx instead of weather)Code: Select all
Logging in to http://www.nevis-view.co.uk Changing directory to wx Uploading standard files Sending html pages Changing directory to images Sending graph files Logging out

Yes, it should, but it doesn't have access to the asynchronous error messages, so it can't.cats_five wrote:What I have noticed is that the FTP progress window doesn't give a clue that that the cd failed, nor does it stop trying to upload at that point - would have thought it should.
Mine, for example, requires me to go to a directory with the name of my domain first (because I have multiple domains in the one account). Others have top levels of "html_files", and there are lots of others that I can't think of at the moment. But it should be obvious what's required based on what you see when you log in with an ftp client. For example?Quite often, more than just the name of the sub-folder as it appears on the web site is required; it depends how your provider has set things up.

Re: Website update not working.
Thanks, the penny has dropped and I think it's OK now.
It needed nevis-view.co.uk/weather in the directory, not just 'weather'. I have got so used to looking at it using WS-FTP which is setup to cd to nevies-view.co.uk when it logs in. Your last post plus looking at it again via FileZilla was the clues I needed.
