- You will need to copy two images from the distribution CUicons/wind directory to its equivalent location on the website
- I noticed that the first time you activate the Station Map it works fine. If you then watch a graph (or something else) and go back to the Map the direction does not work anymore. That has to do with the initialisation of the rotation function which needs to be somewhere else. Is already fixed for the next release but does not seem urgent.

Re: Station Map
Hans, good work on the station map. Could it have an .ini switch to choose the orientation of the arrow. At present it points to the wind direction compass degree rather than indicating direction of movement of the wind (ie rotated 180 degrees)? The former is not the standard I am familiar with but maybe that is a standard for others?

Re: Station Map
In the meteorological world, a wind direction dial always indicates the direction from which the wind is blowing.

Re: Station Map
@billy:
Actually I totally agree with you. While I was implementing it all I already had a feeling it was not as it should be. No standards involved.
I am currently implementing some corrections and extra info for the Station Map and I will turn the arrow 180 degrees (check my site if you want to check )
Other suggestions are welcome, looking for arrows (unless everybody thinks it is a great arrow of course).
@freddie: so what you are saying is the opposite of what @billy says?

Re: Station Map
Yes, but this site shows two different things:Look at the Wairoa Airport page...
There is a compass showing from where the wind is blowing.
Then there is an arrow showing the wind.
In the Station map the arrow is inside a compass and should point to where the winds comes from.
If you seperated them it would be different.

Re: Station Map
btw @billy: if you put the coordinates of the rose just on Bayswater you get the airport in the middle of the map, the rose NW and your station E of center.
That seems a nice configuration

Re: Station Map
I agree that the DIAL indicates the direction, but the arrow HEAD points opposite - at least that's what the BOM uses as per the attached screen shot. Maybe it's a southern hemisphere thing although I vaguely recall that was the case in the USA when I lived there.

Re: Station Map
@billy not just a southern hemisphere thing. If the arrow isn't in a compass dial then it shows direction of flow - it's only when it is in a compass dial that it shows where the wind is coming from, which was the case for the original context of this topic. @sutne said pretty much the same thing.

Re: Station Map
Yes 'direction from where the wind comes' and the 'meteorological pointer' are two different things.sutne wrote: ↑Sat 12 Sep 2020 2:14 pmYes, but this site shows two different things:Look at the Wairoa Airport page...

In the Station map the arrow is inside a compass and should point to where the winds comes from.

The arrow and the rose could be easily separated if wanted (simply add a coordinate set for the arrow which would default to the centre of the compass rose) but the map would become crowded. Maybe I could get a less massive compass rose. However, I guess the arrow could be placed over the object of attention (harbour or airport or whatever the station is serving).
The Wairoa site has the gauges in the map, I have these in the dashboard. That is the whole idea of the dashboard beside the reports. So the meteorological pointer is there already. I can't move the gauge to the map because I can't have 2 equal gauges active on the same page. That is both a technical and a functional limit (no functional duplication)
As far as I am concerned, the arrow will be turned 180 degrees to show the direction of the wind and does not function as the meteorological pointer (that is the gauge already).

Re: Station Map
These are all valid points - and provide good reasons for not terminating a dial arm in a wind direction gauge/compass with an arrow head. A separate arrow is a good solution. If one day a dial can be added, then just ensure there is no arrowhead within it.

Testing 4.4.1.
Not easy, the wind is 0 at the moment.
