(Note that 4.1.0 (build 4024) - 05 June 2024 remains available, but usage of this version is not recommended - particularly for Davis stations - and the included utility in this distribution for migrating to v4 is known to contain errors affecting conversion of dayfile.txt)

A what point during the installation does this happen?

You could try the 1.8.8 beta; I'm not sure I ever tried 1.8.7 on Windows 7. But the installer is exactly the same anyway, so it shouldn't make any difference.

Hi Steve,

I get the error as soon as I launch the install. I tried playing around with the permissions and versions (e.g. Win XP, Vista, etc).

I can't remember anyone else having this problem. I know Windows 7 is fairly new, and not everyone uses the 64-bit version, but that's exactly what I've been running for quite some time now.

Having you tried running the setup as administrator?

If you do get it to run, I advise installing to C:\Cumulus or similar, and not under the default "Program Files (X86)".

I see that there is a later version of the installer creator that I use (Inno Setup), and it does have some changes for Windows 7, so if you don't get anywhere, I can try creating an installer using that. But as I say, the existing one works fine for me.

Hi Steve,

Yes I have tried that. I have both a c:\program files directory and a c:\program files (x86). Right now, I can't get the installer to run so no chance to go to the directory you suggest or any other... :-(

The build I have just uploaded (871) uses the latest version of Inno Setup - could you try that, please, and see if you get anywhere?

Hi Steve,

I get a slightly different error this time - by searching Win 7 forums, the recommendation is that I run XP mode - I would try this but I need the ultimate version and I run home premium...... not sure what I'll do now but thank you for this effort.

Google turns up lots of people with the same error (some with a slightly different second address) trying to install all kinds of software on various flavours of Windows. The suggestion in some cases (from Microsoft) is that it's a registry problem.

You certainly shouldn't need to run the installer in XP mode; it runs fine for me in Windows 7, and I'm not the only one running it in Windows 7.

What's the exact error you're getting now?

Hi Steve,

Access violation at address 00409A0E. Write of address 00400000.

Yes I saw the mentions of registry issues - I have run two different registry cleaners.

Thanks for your help. If your install was a zip file I unzipped and then ran the package would that make a difference? I do not know what your *.exe is doing.

Hi Steve,

The problem was my security software (CA Associates Security Suite - for Win 7). I had used the sleep function and it made no difference. I got suspicious so I uninstalled it and Bingo !, it installs......

Sorry - who could know....

Glad you got it sorted. I could understand a 'security suite' stopping an install if it thought it was malicious, but to cause it to crash sounds like a bug to me.

this problem can occur on windows vista as well, i think the same fix works, trying right now, it won't let me install any codac packs..... and my windows media player has decided it only wants to play the sound of video files....
