Noticed yesterday that the search box is not working.

Returning a 500 error.

Cheers.

Forum search problem

Post by Phil23 »

No,

Still the same 500 error on all machines regardless of Browser.
Can't recall when I first saw it though.

Tried clearing cache on a whim, but no different.

Phil.

Edit:-

It was:- Pressure Trend I was searching.

The single word Pressure returns results without the 500.

Edit Again:-

Single word trend just failed also.
Maybe a timeout issue.

I can certainly get hits on some searches, but "trend" & "pressure trend" constantly fail.

Few other multi word searches worked but a couple of single word ones also failed.
Rather random & didn't note the other few fails.

Phil.

I'm stumped. I tried searching (using the Wiki) for both pressure trend and trend while both logged in and out -- always returned results (no 500 errors). :? :groan:

It's the Forum Search I'm referring to, not sure I've searched the Wiki Much.

I thought it was all good for a while, earlier in the week, but is returning 500 errors again this morning.

"Chart Width" was my keywords, but also single words fail. (Not that I think that's relevant).

Phil.

Ahh.. For a Forum Search issue, this post (and all posts from viewtopic.php?f=11&t=17765#p138034 ) should be moved to a new topic by Freddie in the Forum issues area.. It's not a Wiki Issue (and I can't move the posts myself).

Thanks Phil for clarifying where the problem you were seeing exists. I can only fix stuff on the Wiki (since I host it).

On this forum search issue see viewtopic.php?f=27&t=17856&p=138492#p138492, there I tried the search within the forum with no success (it ignores some of your search items and comes up with blank pages) and used an external search engine entering in the search box
site:cumulus.hosiene.co.uk [put here what you are searching for]

Ok I have made some amendments to the search facilities to mirror another phpBB forum I run where the search function works well, and I have tried a couple of searches and it seems to be working fine.

I have also recreated the Search Index to take into account the changes.

Thank you, I think.
This time when I tried a forum search, I did not get any blank pages, but I did see
Sorry but you cannot use search at this time. Please try again in 9 seconds.
when I tried again not having found what I was looking for. Trying again a few minutes later, same message.

That is because I extended the time between a user searches (i.e. you or me) to 15 seconds to allow other people to get into the act. It lightens the server load and allows more concurrent (but not for the same user obviously as you found out) searches!!

I see using Firefox with spell check ticked does not stop you making typos, it is not just my problem!

That sounds much fairer, and now I know the timer exists, I can slow myself down and have successful searches. Would it be helpful for others to put (say in the pink area above) that users should allow a minimum of 15 seconds between searches?

sfws wrote: Thu 12 Mar 2020 10:52 am My latest irritation is, if I start to edit a post. then on another tab look at something, when I come back and press 'submit' I find I have timed out and have to log in again, then see that my post has been emptied, luckily I can hit back a couple of times and find Firefox has not lost my typing...
Thought I would reply here rather than block up the NOAA post. Checked and there is nothing I can see that would time you out of a post, the settings that apply are all set to zero (i.e. no limit). Do you login and remember to tick the box below that says "Remember Me" as that overrides any Session timeouts for individual users. Session Timeouts are currently set to 2hrs.

Sensible. Something I need to learn from.

Generally.

Even "Silly Fool Weather Station" surely can't be wasting 2 hours looking up something in middle of post
