Beta Testers for new MX build

Topics about the Beta trials up to Build 3043, the last build by Cumulus's founder Steve Loft. It was by this time way out of Beta but Steve wanted to keep it that way until he made a decision on his and Cumulus's future.

Beta Testers for new MX build

Post by mcrossley »

I have a new build of MX in the pipeline, this is a very much a toe in the water test. The principle change is an update the HidSharp component to get rid of the libusb-0 issues on Linux.

I'm looking for a small number of testers who have FO or WMR200 stations to test this before I unleash it!

I have some more testing to do when I get back home later this week, so a test release should be available this weekend.

Changes proposed are...
  • Added new solar calculation method "Bras"
    • New cumulus.ini entries...
      SolarCalc=0 (0=Ryan-Stolzenbach, 1=Bras, default=0)
      BrasTurbidity=2 (atmospheric turbidity factor (2=clear, 5=smoggy, default=2)
  • Updated HidSharp to ver 2.0.5
    • Should now use libusb-1 on Linux for Fine Offset and WMR200 stations
  • Fixed corrupt/missing MySQL port causing CumulusMX to crash on startup
  • Attempt to reconnect to Davis IP logger on connection failure (only a possible fix at this stage)
  • Change default forum URL to its new home

Just to clarify Mark, should these beta testers be Cumulus MX users running Linux/Unix users or will Windows Users also be OK?

Both I guess, I need to confirm it still works on Windows as well as Linux. I have an old FO in a cupboard somewhere, but won't know if it still works until I get home.

Will you be sharing your source changes, as I was thinking about making some changes myself - namely the behaviour when the data connection is dropped.

Yes, the source will be open. Ideally we need someone to host this on GitHub and then anyone can contribute. I'm not sure I can devote the time to managing that at the moment, but I will host it if we have volunteer(s) to co-mange it.

For the moment I have it on a private git server.

Hi Mark,
You know a bit about my limitations, but I do have my extra Vue console with WiFiLogger that I had used earlier in the summer to test with CumulusMX. I would be willing to give it a try on Windows 8 if helpful.

Enjoy,
Paul

I would like to test your version on mine mate i use a fine offset. (Watson W-8186)

Libudev0 problem is annoying me and the mono problem im stuck on mono version 3.2.8.

Im not blaming steve by not doing it. But if you could get a work around for the problem ill be up for it.

The annoying mysql insert problem you see in MXdiags folder.

Thanks
