Once you have MX running, you use your web browser to view the user interface, as described in those instructions.

I had a play with the backup feature last night, and it all worked fine. I did see the webbackup option in there. I'm using Raspian Jessie on Pi3, so I have used the init.d script and 'not' the crontab to autostart. Having only the init.d scripts to start processes like cumulusmx.sh, is there a way to automate the backups every 24hrs..??? I see that it was easy in cronttab, but not sure how I can do it with init.d. Would you use a separate script in init.d to trigger backups at a certain time..???

Hello Mark
thank you very much for confirming that the WebDav/Cloud Backup is working for you.
May I ask you, where you are uploading the files ? I want to know, which provider are you using?

To answer your question about the possibility to initiate the backup via init.d.
I am not the linux expert, so maybe I am not 100 correct, but lets compare the init.d folder with the autostart folder in windows. you can drag and drop programs into the autostart folder and they will be started when windows starts.
You can also drag&drop scripts into init.d folder to start programs when linux ist starting. the difference here is, that you drop not programs, but bash scripts into init.d folder and with these scripts you have more possibilities to get the status of the programs (service xyz status) and via init.d you can tell the system at which point of the system start (runlevel) a program should be started. If you have a system with a gui, you can tell the system to only start the program when the gui starts, but not when the console starts.....
So my init.d startup script works only to start the script when the system starts. Of course, you can use the command Usage: /etc/init.d/cumulusmx {start|stop|force-reload|status} to restarts etc CumulusMX.
In previous versions of Debian I misused the cron to start my script by using the @reboot function in cron. For any reason this did not work anymore with jessie, so I wrote the init.d script.
So finally, compared to Windows: You are using the autostart(init.d) function to start programs at system start, but when you want to make a backup at a given time, you need to use the scheduler (cron) to do this.
sudo corntab -e
Examples:
zip backup every nicht at 1 am
00 01 * * * sudo /CumulusMX/cumulusmx.sh -b -z >> /dev/null 2>&1
Cloud backup every night at 1 am
00 01 * * * sudo /CumulusMX/cumulusmx.sh -b -c >> /dev/null 2>&1

Hint: Please insert your Cloud Drive settings (Server, user and password) into the conf file and then use ./cumulusmx.sh -c option to check if the Cloud drive your configured is accessible (This is the check option)
And as you can also see, when starting the backups via command line, there is no "press any key to continue" option which is waiting to press a key to start backup...there is always a timer which continue automatically with the backup after a couple of seconds.....so you can use the normal command line options also in cron.

Does it make sense to you?
Jan

Hi Jan, Thank you for your reply. That all makes sense and I'll give it a try later tonight. Note that I 'saw' the web-back in there but I have not tried it out. Just an observation...

Thanks again...

Hello Richard

Most current version of cumulusmx init script is # Version: 1.2 - 08.06.2016
Most current version of CumulusMX Start Stop Script is: ./cumulusmx.sh -v Version: 2.5.2.0

anyway, updating both versions will not fix your problem. but
When you see this error, cumulusmx.sh was being started by the init.d script, but for any reason the main script won't be started by the init script.
Pelase try these things
1) /etc/init.d/cumulusmx force-reload - does it work?
2) have you modified the head of the Init Script (necesarry for the path information and owner of the process?
please send me the result of this command: head -n20 /etc/init.d/cumulusmx |grep -i CumulusMX |grep -v "#"

Can't you make use of Putty? Putty is a SSH Session to the Raspberry Pi on Port 22 ?
This should be allowed form your country to the server in the US

Richard, this | is called pipe.
I think you will hjave 2 possibillities to use this also on a foreign keyboard.
1) Use copy$paste from Clipboard, this will ignore any differences between keyamaps
2) when you are on a command line and logged in, type loadkeys en to switch to the English Keyboard layout or loadkeys us to switch back.
Not sure if still all languages are installed, so in case it is not, you will get an error like -> Can not find file

No. MX works with the same stations that Cumulus 1 works with - http://wiki.sandaysoft.com/a/Supported_Devices
