Has a poll on Davis owners ever been done.

Post by Touchtone »

Has a poll on what station types Davis owners have ever done?. I would be interested to find out how many VP1, VP2, VP2 Plus & Vue there are on the forum.
I have a VP 2 Plus with the Fan-Aspirated Radiation Shield as it gets very hot here in the summer & the solar radiation is very high as the Tropic of Capricorn is not far away.
Mine is the 6163 model.
The poll would be just for interests sake.

I have a VP2 with a separate anemometer/transmitter mounted on my roof.

Hi Tom. I have the same arrangement with a separate transmitter for the anemometer on my VP2 plus. Otherwise I would have had to use lengthy cable extensions which are messy as the best of times, but the 6332 transmitter does raise the cost a lot.

I can edit your post to add a poll, but we need to agree on what the answers need to be, because there are more possibilities than just the 'stock' systems. I have a VP2 but I've added a solar sensor. Other people will have things like leaf sensors. I'm not sure the poll system could cope with every possibility.

Edit: actually, I think anyone can create a poll anyway, so if you would like to do that, please do.

Steve is probably right, a poll would be too hard to organise. I suggest somebody, possibly the op, should collate results as they appear in the forum, and post them once or twice a week. This would have the advantage of keeping the thread near the top of the list.

My system is the standard VP2, with solar and UV sensors.

Ben

Edit: If people think the collating is a good idea, and the op doesn't want to do it, I would be happy to throw my hat in the ring.

The poll should go something like this:
Has a poll ever been done for Davis owners?
* Y
* N

Davis VP2 with solar and UV sensors, separate transmitter for anemometer, and Blake-Larsen sun recorder

I can see now how complex a poll could get, so I think it's best to forget the idea.

But a poll can be multiple choice can't it, so you could list all the Davis components separately (up to 10 allowed) and every one selects their components for a total figure. How meaningful it would be I'm not sure, but you could say out of all the Davis owners X, Y have a UV module.

OK I will give it some more thought & probably go ahead. I think the best way to go would be to list the models by their number eg 6152 with a brief description & then list the optional extras such as leaf wetness sensor & soil moisture sensor separately.
I will see how the poll box works in various ways to see if I can get the best overall outcome.
Is the Vantage Vue only available in one model?. Someone may help me here as I am not familiar with it.

There’s no poll question for those with a 6152 and Dfars. My garden faces due South and I have found it invaluable; not only for summer but throughout the year. It only gets caught out when the sun rises more NE and sets more NW; even then minimum and maximum readings haven’t been affected.
